SARAH VON LIENEN NAMED GSC WEST DIVISION VOLLEYBALL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK FOR FOURTH TIME THIS SEASON

         RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas – Arkansas Tech junior middle blocker Sarah Von Lienen (Lakeland, Tenn.) has once again earned the Gulf South Conference West Division Volleyball Player of the Week on Tuesday as she was named the West Division Offensive Player of the Week by the league office in Birmingham, Ala.

It is the ninth time in her Tech career and the fourth time this season that Von Lienen has been named a West Division Volleyball Player of the Week. Last season, she was named the Defensive Player of the Week three times and earned Offensive Player of the Week honors once.

          Von Lienen, who was named the Preseason All-GSC West Division selection and was an Honorable Mention AVCA All-South Region honoree last season, earns this week’s offensive honor after helping guide the Golden Suns to a 2-1 record for the week and a 1-1 record in GSC play. On the week, Von Lienen had a 37 kills on 61 attempts with a .508 hitting percentage and on defense, she recorded 13 total blocks, eight of which came against Christian Brothers in Tech’s 3-0 win on Oct. 6.

          On the season, Von Lienen has played in 81 of Tech’s 87 sets and leads the team in blocks (75), solo blocks (18), kills (260) and attack percentage (.302). In addition, she is averaging 3.21 kills per set and has had only 85 attack errors in 580 attack attempts.         

Along with Von Lienen, the GSC also named Arkansas-Monticello senior middle blocker Mallory Storm as the West Division’s Defensive Player of the Week. In the East Division, West Alabama senior outside hitter Jessica Cook and West Florida senior middle blocker Patricia Gandolfo were named the Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week respectively.

          Von Lienen and her Golden Sun teammates return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 13 when they face GSC West Division leading Henderson State in a 7 p.m. match ay Tucker Coliseum. Tech will also play at home on Thursday, Oct. 15 against Ouachita Baptist at 7 p.m., before playing on Friday, Oct. 16 at the HSU/OBU Invitational in Arkadelphia, Ark., against West Alabama and Alabama-Huntsville.
