VOLLEYBALL POSTS THREE-SET SWEEP OVER OUACHITA BAPTIST

RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas – Arkansas Tech Volleyball posted its second straight three-set sweep here Thursday night as the Golden Suns defeated Ouachita Baptist (25-14, 25-14, 25-20) in Gulf South Conference play at Tucker Coliseum.

On the night, Tech hit .360 as a team and in its final set they hit an impressive .400 and they held OBU to a .110 hitting percentage for the match.

Tech only trailed the Lady Tigers in once in the whole match, which was off an attack error by sophomore outside hitter Laura Farney (Morton, Ill.) in the second set. That was the only time Tech ever was in any trouble. For the match, Tech had six players record five or more kills in the match.

Leading the way for the Golden Suns was Farney, who posted her 18th double-double as she had 15 kills and 13 digs. The 18th double-double puts Farney tied for 19th on the school’s single-season double-double club with former Golden Suns Rachel Urquhart and Misty Martin.

Other highlights for Tech included 11 kills for freshman middle blocker Brittany Ryan (Mena, Ark.), who also had one of the two solo blocks on the night, while sophomore libero Brennae Benda (Woodstock, Ill.) had 16 digs, which is her 18th match with double-digit digs and junior setter Kera Dukic (White Lake, Mich.) had 49 assists, which is her ninth of 40-plus assist match of the season.

Pacing the Tigers (8-16 overall, 1-6 GSC) was Libby Merritt, who had 9 kills for the Lady Tigers, while Raichel Settle had 12 digs in the loss.

The Golden Suns return to action on Friday, Oct. 16, when they travel to Arkadelphia, Ark., to compete in the Henderson State/Ouachita Baptist Invitational. Tech will open the tournament against West Alabama, who is ranked 10th in latest NCAA Division II South Region poll, at 3 p.m. and then conclude the day against Alabama-Huntsville at 6:30 p.m. The UWA will be held at Henderson State, while the UAH match will be held at Ouachita Baptist.
