TECH VOLLEYBALL RUNS WIN STREAK TO TWO WITH TUESDAY
NIGHT'S THREE-GAME SWEEP AT ARKANSAS-MONTICELLO
MONTICELLO, Arkansas –
Arkansas Tech Volleyball began the final week of the
regular season here Tuesday looking to solidify its
positioning in next weekend’s Gulf South Conference
Tournament as it posted a three-game sweep over
Arkansas-Monticello (30-28, 30-28, 30-22) at Steelman
Fieldhouse.
Tech, who improved to 22-11 overall and 8-3 in the GSC
West Division, used a solid offense that hit .239 and a
defense that recorded 11 total blocks to post its second
consecutive three-game sweep and 13th of the season.
Tuesday night’s match featured 11 ties and four lead
changes, with eight ties in the first game. The only
game, in which a team had more than a five-point lead,
came in the third and final game when Tech led by as
much as eight points.
Leading the way for Tech was junior outside hitter
Racheal Urquhart (Chatham, Ont.), who had a
double-double of 16 kills and 10 digs. The double-double
was her 15th of the season and 40th for her Tech career.
In addition to Urquhart, freshman outside hitter
Kelly O’Malley (Laurel, Mont.) had a solid game as
she had 13 kills and hit a team-best .345, while junior
middle blocker Dana Florian (Wilmington, Ill.)
recorded nine kills and three blocks and freshman middle
blocker Sarah Von Lienen (Lakeland, Tenn.) added
seven kills, five blocks, including two solo blocks and
hit .333 in the win.
UAM, who fell to 11-20 overall and 2-9 in the GSC West
Division, was paced offensively by Kameshia Melton, who
had 16 kills and hit a team-best .333, while Nicole
Ferguson added 11 kills and two of UAM’s five blocks for
the match.
Redshirt freshman libero Ashley Camp (Conway,
Ark.) was one of three Golden Suns to collect
double-digit digs as she had 20 for the match, while
senior defensive specialist Courtney Collins
(Joplin, Mo.) added 11 and Urquhart had 10.
For the match, UAM collected seven service aces and had
only three service errors, while Tech had just five aces
and seven service errors.
Tech will close out the regular season portion of the
2007 schedule Thursday when the Golden Suns travel to
Arkadelphia, Ark., to face Henderson State in a 3 p.m.
match at the Duke Wells Center. Tech collected a
five-game win at home over the Lady Reddies on Oct. 9.
