TECH VOLLEYBALL RUNS WIN STREAK TO TWO WITH TUESDAY NIGHT'S THREE-GAME SWEEP AT ARKANSAS-MONTICELLO

MONTICELLO, Arkansas – Arkansas Tech Volleyball began the final week of the regular season here Tuesday looking to solidify its positioning in next weekend’s Gulf South Conference Tournament as it posted a three-game sweep over Arkansas-Monticello (30-28, 30-28, 30-22) at Steelman Fieldhouse.

Tech, who improved to 22-11 overall and 8-3 in the GSC West Division, used a solid offense that hit .239 and a defense that recorded 11 total blocks to post its second consecutive three-game sweep and 13th of the season.

Tuesday night’s match featured 11 ties and four lead changes, with eight ties in the first game. The only game, in which a team had more than a five-point lead, came in the third and final game when Tech led by as much as eight points.

Leading the way for Tech was junior outside hitter Racheal Urquhart (Chatham, Ont.), who had a double-double of 16 kills and 10 digs. The double-double was her 15th of the season and 40th for her Tech career.

In addition to Urquhart, freshman outside hitter Kelly O’Malley (Laurel, Mont.) had a solid game as she had 13 kills and hit a team-best .345, while junior middle blocker Dana Florian (Wilmington, Ill.) recorded nine kills and three blocks and freshman middle blocker Sarah Von Lienen (Lakeland, Tenn.) added seven kills, five blocks, including two solo blocks and hit .333 in the win.

UAM, who fell to 11-20 overall and 2-9 in the GSC West Division, was paced offensively by Kameshia Melton, who had 16 kills and hit a team-best .333, while Nicole Ferguson added 11 kills and two of UAM’s five blocks for the match.

Redshirt freshman libero Ashley Camp (Conway, Ark.) was one of three Golden Suns to collect double-digit digs as she had 20 for the match, while senior defensive specialist Courtney Collins (Joplin, Mo.) added 11 and Urquhart had 10.

For the match, UAM collected seven service aces and had only three service errors, while Tech had just five aces and seven service errors.

Tech will close out the regular season portion of the 2007 schedule Thursday when the Golden Suns travel to Arkadelphia, Ark., to face Henderson State in a 3 p.m. match at the Duke Wells Center. Tech collected a five-game win at home over the Lady Reddies on Oct. 9.
