TECH VOLLEYBALL LANDS 3-0 WIN AT ARKANSAS-PINE BLUFF
PINE BLUFF, Arkansas –
The Arkansas Tech Golden Suns volleyball team collected
their third win of the week, to improve to 13-7 overall
on the season, as they stepped out of Gulf South
Conference play here Friday night with a 3-0 (30-25,
30-24, 30-19) victory over NCAA Division I-A member
Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
“This was a long week with two GSC matches,” said Tech
Head Coach Kristy Bayer. “The intensity wasn’t as
high today but we are happy to finish the week with
three 3-0 wins.”
As a team the Golden Suns out-hit UAPB .305 to .078. For
the second straight night, Tech was able to hold their
opponent to under a .100 hitting percentage. On
Thursday, Tech held Southern Arkansas to a mark of .067
at home in Tucker Coliseum.
Offensively, the Golden Suns were led by junior outside
hitter Racheal Urquhart (Chatham, Ont.) who
posted a team-high 10 kills while hitting a very
convincing .471. Freshman Sarah Von Lienen
(Lakeland, Tenn.) hit .533 in the midst of tallying nine
kills and two block assists. Junior setter Kayla
Allison (Tulsa, Okla.) recorded 11 assists in the
match to go along with five kills with no attack errors
while hitting .714. The junior setter also added two
block assists for Tech. Freshman setter Kera Dukic
(White Lake, Mich.) also notched 10 assists for
Tech.
Defensively, freshman libero Ashley Camp (Conway,
Ark.) led the way with 11 digs and senior defensive
specialist Courtney Collins (Joplin, Mo.) posted
eight digs in the victory.
UAPB, who fell to 0-4 on the year, was led by Krystalea
Phillips who finished with a match-high 16 kills while
hitting .407 against the tough Golden Suns defense.
After a weekend off, Tech will travel to Searcy and get
back into GSC play with a match scheduled for 7 p.m.
Tuesday against the Harding Lady Bisons.
“We need to take our momentum we gained from our three
wins this week into the Harding match,” Bayer said.
“Thus far, it is the most important match of the
season.”
