TECH VOLLEYBALL FALLS IN THREE GAMES TUESDAY AT SOUTHERN ARKANSAS

        MAGNOLIA, Arkansas – Kristy Bayer’s Arkansas Tech Golden Suns fell to 20-10 overall and 6-2 in Gulf South Conference play with a 3-0 (30-25, 30-27, 30-27) loss at the hands of the Southern Arkansas Lady Muleriders here Tuesday night.

Tech was held to a hitting percentage of just .090 managing only 41 kills on 166 attempts while being guilty of 26 errors. SAU posted a mark of .139, gaining 46 kills on 151 attempts.  

The Golden Suns were led by junior outside hitter Racheal Urquhart (Chatham, Ont.) who posted a match-high 16 kills. Urquhart also added 11 digs for Tech. Junior setter Kayla Allison (Tulsa, Okla.) also notched a double-double with 24 assists and 16 digs.

Defensively for Tech, freshman libero Ashley Camp (Conway, Ark.) led the way with 20 digs and senior defensive specialist Courtney Collins (Joplin, Mo.) tallied 10 digs in the contest.

Shelly Jones contributed 13 kills and 12 digs to lead the way for the Lady Muleriders. Andrea Spradlin gained 23 assists to go along with 12 digs and Sarah Bell and Kristina Daily added eight kills a piece in the match. Mallory McKee was key in slowing down the Golden Suns offensive attack as she rolled up a match-high 26 digs. Christina Correa also was a force defensively tallying 17 digs in the match.

With the win, the Lady Muleriders improved their record to 7-18 overall and 3-5 in GSC play.

Tech gets back into action Thursday night at Tucker Coliseum when they play host to the Harding Lady Bisons for a match scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Harding won the first meeting between the two squads, 3-0, on Sept. 25.
