VOLLEYBALL RETURNS TO GSC PLAY, POSTS THREE-SET WIN
AT CHRISTIAN BROTHERS

         RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas – Arkansas Tech Volleyball returned home here Wednesday and posted a three-set non-conference sweep over Bacone College (25-15, 25-8, 25-10) on Little Techsters Night at Tucker Coliseum.

Wednesday’s night was Tech’s second consecutive three-set sweep as the Golden Suns posted a three-set sweep on Tuesday at Christian Brothers.

With the win, Tech improves to 15-8 on the season and has now won won four of its last five matches with its only loss being a five-set defeat last Saturday at home against Central Oklahoma.

In Wednesday’s match, Tech was paced by the offensive play of junior right side hitter Ashlynn Hamrick (Jackson, Mich.), redshirt sophomore outside hitter Kelly O’Malley (Billings, Mont.) and freshman outside hitter Carly Florian (Wilmington, Ill.), who each recorded nine kills for the match. O’Malley hit .600, while Hamrick hit .438 in the win.

For the match, Tech recorded 37 kills and hit .394 as a team, while holding the Warriors to a -.013 hitting percentage and 15 kills in three sets. On defense, Tech outdug Bacone, 38-23 and had 12 service aces in the win.

Sophomore libero Brennae Benda (Woodstock, Ill.) led Tech’s defense with 12 digs and also had five aces, while sophomore setter Flavia Canossa (Sao Paulo, Brazil) had 27 assists and four service aces.

Bacone was paced by seven kills from Amy Mulcock, while Emilie Shewmaker added eight digs for the Warriors in the loss.

After hitting just .240 in the first set, Tech combined to hit .478 in the final two sets, including hitting .550 in the second set.

Tech will have little time to rest as they return to Gulf South Conference action on Thursday, Oct. 8 at home against Arkansas-Monticello. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on 80’s Night at Tucker Coliseum. Fans are encouraged to dress in 80’s style as there will be a contest for the best 80’s costume, along with prize give-aways.
