TECH VOLLEYBALL WILL HOST ITS THIRD-ANNUAL "PINK OUT"
MATCH FOR BREAST CANCER AWARENESS THURSDAY AGAINST
HARDING
RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas –
Arkansas Tech Volleyball is looking for everyone to wear
pink in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month
(October) when it hosts Harding in a 7 p.m. Gulf South
Conference match on Thursday, Oct. 22 at Tucker
Coliseum.
In
addition to the fans wearing pink, the Golden Suns
Volleyball team will also be
wearing pink uniforms,
which will be auctioned off following the match. The
pink uniforms were donated by the IBEW (International
Brotherhood of Electrical Workers) of Arkansas Nuclear
One.
“This is our third annual Pink-Out night,” Tech Head
Volleyball Coach Kristy Bayer said. “This event
is always a big success. All proceeds go to the Susan
G. Komen Foundation. We couldn’t do it without the help
of our sponsors and I’d also like to thank the IBEW for
getting involved once again.”
Along with that, Tech’s
SAAC (Student-Athletic Advisory Committee) will have
booths set up around Tucker Coliseum for fans to bid on
gear from all of Tech’s athletic teams and Zeta Tau
Alpha sorority is also going to be handing pink ribbons
to all the fans in attendance and also passing out
informational pamphlets about breast cancer and breast
cancer research. All proceeds generated from the silent
auction and the pink uniforms
will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer
Foundation. There will also be a chance for 500 lucky
fans to win a pink shirt, as well.
“We are partnering once again with the SAAC and the Zeta
Tau Alpha Sorority,” the sixth-year Tech coach said.
“We worked with them last year as well and they did a
great job helping us.”
The match with the Lady
Bison will be the ninth GSC match of the season for the
Golden Suns. Bayer’s squad is off to a 5-2 start in
league play and is standing at 18-10 overall. The Golden
Suns play at Southern Arkansas on Tuesday, before
Thursday’s “Pink Out” match with Harding.
Harding is currently
sporting a 21-5 overall record and are 6-1 in GSC West
Division. Earlier this season, Harding picked up a
four-set win over Tech in Searcy.
“This is a good event,” said Bayer. “It is a fun event
and it also helps to raise awareness for a good cause.”
Fans unable to attend
the Harding match are welcome to call in their bid for
the pink uniforms or the other silent auction items to
the Tech Athletic Department Office at (479) 968-0345.
The auction opens at 6:30 p.m. and will conclude at the
end of the second set.
