TENNIS CONCLUDES RECORD-SETTING REGULAR SEASON WITH
HOME VICTORY OVER SOUTHERN ARKANSAS
RUSSELLVILLE,
Arkansas –
Arkansas Tech Golden Suns Tennis concluded its
record-setting regular season action here on a blustery,
cool Monday afternoon with a 5-0 Gulf South Conference
victory over Southern Arkansas at the Chartwells Women’s
Sports Complex.
With the win, Tech concludes the regular season with a
school-record 16 wins and is now 16-4 overall and 4-2 in
the GSC. In addition, the victory sealed the No. 3 seed
from the West Division in this coming weekend’s GSC
Tournament at Lagoon Park in Montgomery, Ala. SAU
concludes the 2008-09 season with a 1-10-1 overall
record and a 1-4 mark in the GSC.
“I am really proud of the way our season has gone. This
has been a tremendous group of young ladies to coach,”
Golden Suns Head Coach Abby Davis said. “We
accomplished several things this year that has never
been done here at Tech and that is a tribute to them.”
In Monday’s match, Tech only had to play two of three
doubles matches as the Lady Muleriders had only four
players. Tech earned forfeit wins at No. 5 and No. 6
singles and at No. 3 doubles before the match even
started. Tech sealed the win by picking up an 8-4 win at
No. 1 doubles from seniors Anna Carson (Fort
Smith, Ark.) and Kristen Brown (Winona, Texas)
and a 9-7 victory at No. 2 doubles from sophomore
Michelle Yu (Flower Mound, Texas) and freshman
Brittany Turner (Pearcy, Ark.).
Monday’s match was the final home contests for Brown and
Carson.
Tech will return to action on Friday, April 17, when
they face fifth-ranked West Florida (15-6 overall, 4-1
GSC), the No. 2 seed from the East Division, in an 8:30
a.m. match in the first round of the GSC Tournament.
