TENNIS SLAM IN LATE SEPTEMBER

RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas – Arkansas Tech Golden Suns Tennis has announced that it will host the First Annual Golden Suns College Tennis Slam on Sept. 28-29. The tournament will be conducted on three sites, including the eight tennis courts at Tech’s new Chartwells Women’s Sports Complex and the courts at both Russellville High School and Old Post Park.

The tournament will feature 11 women’s tennis teams from the region, including Tech. Among the teams expected to send competitors include Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Lyon College, Northeastern [OK] State, Ouachita Baptist, Henderson State, Southern Arkansas, Southeastern Oklahoma and Southwest Baptist.

“This will be a great opportunity for us to expose the Russellville community to some outstanding women’s college tennis competition,” Golden Suns Head Coach Abby Davis said. “In addition, this is the first major tournament that has been held here in Russellville in many, many years and the competition should help our team prepare for the season.”

Davis said that the tournament will feature four flights of singles with 16 entrants in each flight and there will be four flights of doubles with 16 teams in each flight.

On Friday, Sept. 28, Flight 1 and 2 singles will be played at the Chartwells Complex, while Flight 3 singles will be contested at Russellville H.S. and Flight 4 singles will be held at Old Post Park. On Saturday, Sept. 29, Davis said that all of the matches will be held at the Chartwells Complex.

In addition to the singles action, both of the doubles flights will be held at Chartwells and begin in the afternoon on Sept. 28.
