TECH TENNIS TO HOST FIRST ANNUAL GOLDEN SUNS COLLEGE
TENNIS SLAM IN LATE SEPTEMBER

Arkansas Tech Golden Suns Tennis has announced that it
will host the First Annual Golden Suns College Tennis
Slam on Sept. 28-29. The tournament will be conducted on
three sites, including the eight tennis courts at Tech’s
new Chartwells Women’s Sports Complex and the courts at
both Russellville High School and Old Post Park.
The tournament will feature 11 women’s tennis teams from
the region, including Tech. Among the teams expected to
send competitors include Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Lyon
College, Northeastern [OK] State, Ouachita Baptist,
Henderson State, Southern Arkansas, Southeastern
Oklahoma and Southwest Baptist.
“This will be a great opportunity for us to expose the
Russellville community to some outstanding women’s
college tennis competition,” Golden Suns Head Coach
Abby Davis said. “In addition, this is the first
major tournament that has been held here in Russellville
in many, many years and the competition should help our
team prepare for the season.”
Davis said that the tournament will feature four
flights of singles with 16 entrants in each flight and
there will be four flights of doubles with 16 teams in
each flight.
On Friday, Sept. 28, Flight 1 and 2 singles will be
played at the Chartwells Complex, while Flight 3 singles
will be contested at Russellville H.S. and Flight 4
singles will be held at Old Post Park. On Saturday,
Sept. 29, Davis said that all of the matches will be
held at the Chartwells Complex.
In addition to the singles action, both of the
doubles flights will be held at Chartwells and begin in
the afternoon on Sept. 28.
