GOLDEN SUNS DROP FIRST MATCH OF THE SEASON LAST SATURDAY, FALLS TO DELTA STATE

        ARKADELPHIA, Arkansas –  The Arkansas Tech Golden Suns Tennis suffered its first loss of the season this past Saturday here to GSC West Division rival, Delta State. Tech fell 5-1 in the match that was played on the indoor courts at Ouachita Baptist University.

With the loss, Tech falls to 11-1 overall and 1-1 in the GSC on the season and saw its 11-match winning streak snapped, while Delta State improves to 7-2 and 2-0 in the GSC on the season.

The Lady Statesmen won all three of the completed singles matches and two of the three doubles matches to take the match.

In doubles action, senior Anna Carson (Greenwood, Ark.) and sophomore Saki Matsuoka (Saitama, Japan) collected an 8-4 win at the No. 1 spot, but fell at No. 2 doubles, 8-1 and then suffered a 9-7 loss at No. 3 doubles after sophomores Michelle Yu (Flower Mound, Texas) and Jessica James (Valley Springs, Ark.) held a 6-4 lead.

Meanwhile, in singles action, the Lady Statesmen took the match as they won in straight sets at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 4 singles. The singles match at No. 3 was not finished, but DSU had won the first set, 6-3 and the singles matches at No. 5 and No. 6 were not played.

The Golden Suns will return to action with two matches this coming week as they face off against the University of Ozarks on Tuesday, March 17 at 4 p.m. and then face Henderson State a 4 p.m. GSC match in Arkadelphia, Ark., on Wednesday, March 18.
