GOLDEN SUNS SPLIT ITS WEEKEND HOME MATCHES AGAINST NORTHEASTERN STATE AND CHRISTIAN BROTHERS

RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas – Arkansas Tech Golden Suns Tennis split its matches at home this weekend as it fell 9-0 to 11th-ranked Northeastern State on Saturday and then collected a 9-0 South Region win on Sunday over Christian Brothers.

With the split, Tech’s record is now 7-4 on the season and is 3-3 in South Region matches.

In Saturday’s match against the 11th-ranked RiverHawks, Tech dropped all three doubles matches despite leading 6-1 at No. 2 doubles and was ahead 4-0 at No. 3 doubles before the RiverHawks came back to win 9-8 at No. 2 in a super tie-breaker and then won 9-7 at No. 3 doubles respectively.

Northeastern State, who improved to 9-1 on the season, won all six singles matches, but junior Anna Carson (Fort Smith, Ark.) put up a fight at No. 1 singles as she lost 7-5, 6-2 to NSU’s Zuzanna Osinka.

“NSU is a very good team, but I was proud of the way our team played against them,” Golden Suns Head Coach Abby Davis said. “Despite the loss, our kids put up a fight and made them work for the win.”

In Sunday’s match against Christian Brothers, Tech allowed the Lady Bucs to score just 10 points in the entire match, including winning at No. 3 and No. 5 singles by identical 6-0, 6-0 scores.

The Golden Suns will return to action on Thursday, March 20 when they welcome Harding for a 2 p.m. Gulf South Conference match-up at Chartwells Women’s Sports Complex. Harding collected a 7-2 win over the Golden Suns earlier this season in Searcy.
