GOLDEN SUNS COLLECT ROAD TENNIS WIN AT OUACHITA BAPTIST

Arkansas Tech Golden Suns Tennis put itself into
position to earn a spot in this year’s Gulf South
Conference Tournament by posting a 5-4 conference win
here Tuesday over Ouachita Baptist.
With the win, Tech improves to 9-7 overall on the season
and 2-2 in the GSC. Tech can seal its GSC Tournament
berth by winning just one of its final two GSC matches.
The Golden Suns will travel to Memphis, Tenn., to face
Christian Brothers on Thursday and will then conclude
the regular season at home on Sunday against Henderson
State.
In Tuesday’s match, Tech opened by taking two of the
three doubles matches, including winning at No. 1
doubles, 9-8 in a tiebreaker and then posting an 8-1 win
at No. 3 doubles. The Lady Tigers prevented a Tech sweep
when they won 8-2 at No. 2 doubles.
Meanwhile, in singles action, Tech clinched the match by
posting wins at No. 2, No. 5 and No. 6. At No. 2
singles, junior Anna Carson (Greenwood, Ark.)
posted a 6-2, 6-3 win, while junior Kristen Brown
(Winona, Texas) picked a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles
and senior Whitney Simmons (Pottsville, Ark.)
picked up a 7-6 (5), 6-1 win at No. 6 singles.
Tech will return to action on Thursday when they face
LeMoyne-Owen in Memphis at 10 a.m. and then face
Christian Brothers at 2 p.m.
