Phillip
Wilkerson is entering his first
season at Arkansas Tech University
as an assistant athletic trainer. In
his duties at Tech, Wilkerson serves
as an assistant athletic trainer for
football, along with being the
athletic trainer for the Wonder Boys
baseball program and also helps out
with both the men's and women's
basketball teams.
Wilkerson, who is a native of
Monroe City, Mo., comes to Tech
after spending last year with the
Kansas City Chiefs of the National
Football League, where he served as
the seasonal assistant athletic
trainer. Wilkerson had spent two
other stints with the Kansas City
Chiefs as a summer athletic training
intern.
Prior to
working with the Kansas City Chiefs,
Wilkerson spent three years
(2003-06) as a graduate assistant
athletic trainer at Marshall
University in Huntington, W.V., were
he earned a Master of Arts in
Teaching, with an emphasis in K-12
physical education and a Master of
Science in health and physical
education. While
with the Thundering Herd, Wilkerson
worked with the school's football
team, men's soccer team, women's
soccer team, women's indoor track
and field team and women's
volleyball team. His duties included
treatment and rehabilitation of
injuries, along with normal daily
and game day responsibilities of an NCAA Division I athletic training
room.
Wilkerson became a certified member
of the National Athletic Trainer'
Association after graduating from
the University of Missouri with a
bachelor of science degree in human
nutrition and fitness in 2003. While
at the University of Missouri, Wilkerson served as a
student athletic trainer, working
with the football, wrestling, men's
and women's cross country, indoor
and outdoor track and field, men's
basketball and women's soccer teams.
