Lisa Erwin, Head Athletic Trainer
Lisa Erwin is entering her fifth year overall at Arkansas Tech University and is entering her third year as the school’s head athletic trainer. At Tech, Erwin is in charge of providing medical coverage for all of the school’s men’s and women’s athletic teams, including serving as the athletic trainer for the volleyball, women’s basketball and softball teams.

Erwin, who is a native of Raytown, Mo., came to Tech in August of 2003 as an assistant trainer after spending two years (2001-03) at Texas A&M University as the athletic trainer for the women’s basketball team. Prior to Texas A&M, Erwin spent one season (2000-01) as a trainer at the University of Kansas, working primarily with Kansas’ Spirit Squad and Dance team. In addition to her athletic training work, Erwin also spent three years working in Neurology, Genetics, Orthopedics and the Medical/Surgical floor at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Mo.

A certified member of the National Athletic Trainer’s Association and the Southwest Athletic Trainer’s Association, Erwin, who is also certified in CPR/First Aid/AED, earned her bachelors degree in exercise sport science/athletic training in 2000 from the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kan.

 

Brett “Duke” Waldon, Assistant Athletic Trainer
Brett Waldon is entering his second year at Arkansas Tech University as an assistant athletic trainer. In his duties at Tech, Waldon serves as the head football trainer, along with being the athletic trainer for the men’s basketball program.

Waldon came to Tech after spending one year as an assistant athletic trainer at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Ark. While with the Tigers, Waldon served as the athletic trainer for both the football and men’s basketball teams.

A certified member of the National Athletic Trainer’s Association and the Arkansas Athletic Trainers’ Association, Waldon, who is also certified in CPR/First Aid/AED, received his masters degree in May 2006 in sports administration from Henderson State University and a bachelor of science degree in recreation and sports medicine from Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Ark., in 1996. While in graduate school at HSU, Waldon served as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Ouachita Baptist.

Waldon, who is a native of Fort Smith, Ark., and a graduate of Fort Smith Northside High School, is single and is the father of a son, Michael (18), who will be a freshman football player at Tech this coming fall.

 

Phillip Wilkerson, Assistant Athletic Trainer
Phillip Wilkerson is entering his first season at Arkansas Tech University as an assistant athletic trainer. In his duties at Tech, Wilkerson serves as an assistant athletic trainer for football, along with being the athletic trainer for the Wonder Boys baseball program and also helps out with both the men's and women's basketball teams.

Wilkerson, who is a native of Monroe City, Mo., comes to Tech after spending last year with the Kansas City Chiefs of the National Football League, where he served as the seasonal assistant athletic trainer. Wilkerson had spent two other stints with the Kansas City Chiefs as a summer athletic training intern.

Prior to working with the Kansas City Chiefs, Wilkerson spent three years (2003-06) as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Marshall University in Huntington, W.V., were he earned a Master of Arts in Teaching, with an emphasis in K-12 physical education and a Master of Science in health and physical education. While with the Thundering Herd, Wilkerson worked with the school's football team, men's soccer team, women's soccer team, women's indoor track and field team and women's volleyball team. His duties included treatment and rehabilitation of injuries, along with normal daily and game day responsibilities of an NCAA Division I athletic training room.

Wilkerson became a certified member of the National Athletic Trainer' Association after graduating from the University of Missouri with a bachelor of science degree in human nutrition and fitness in 2003. While at the University of Missouri, Wilkerson served as a student athletic trainer, working with the football, wrestling, men's and women's cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field, men's basketball and women's soccer teams.
