PITCHER OF THE WEEK HONOR
BIRMINGHAM,
Alabama –
For the third week in a row, Arkansas Tech’s Casey
Hammons has been named the recipient of the Gulf
South Conference West Division Softball Pitcher of the
Week award.
Hammons has won Pitcher of the Week honors three times
this season and six times in her Golden Sun career. In
addition, Tech has now won the GSC West Division Pitcher
of the Week honor four straight weeks as freshman
Morgan Rodgers (Mansfield, Texas) received the honor
on March 17.
For
the week, Hammons went 1-1 and compiled a 1.85 earned
run average at last weekend’s GSC Crossover Tournament
in Decatur, Ala. In 15.1 innings of work, Hammons
allowed nine hits and five runs, including four earned
runs, while walking five and striking out 13. Hammons’
one win came against 17th-ranked West Florida, as the
right-hander pitched a complete game against the Lady
Argonauts, holding them to just one run on three hits,
while walking three and fanning six.
It was the second straight week that Hammons has earned
a victory
against a ranked opponent as she got the win in the
Golden Suns 2-1 victory over Southeastern Oklahoma on
March 24. Hammons held SOSU to one run on eight hits,
with a pair of walks and strikeouts.
On the season, Hammons has a 13-6 overall record, has
picked up three saves and has a 1.03 ERA. She has made
28 appearances and 19 starts and has thrown 12 complete
games including four shutouts. In 142.1 innings of work,
Hammons has allowed 100 hits and 37 runs (21 earned
runs), while striking out 142 and walking 43. Opposing
hitters are batting .197 against Hammons on the season.
In addition to Hammons, Arkansas-Monticello senior
shortstop Lindsay Randall was named the GSC West
Division Player of the Week, while Alabama-Huntsville
junior third baseman Beth Lawson and Valdosta State
senior hurler Brianna Collins were named the East
Division Player and Pitcher of the Week respectively.
Hammons and the Golden Suns (29-19 overall, 12-8 GSC)
will return to action on Tuesday, April 14 when they
host Rogers State in a non-conference doubleheader
beginning at 2 p.m. at the Chartwells Women’s Sports
