GOLDEN SUNS SOFTBALL HAVE FINAL TWO GAMES AT
GSC/MIDWEST CROSSOVER CANCELLED DUE TO RAIN
TUNICA,
Mississippi –
Arkansas Tech’s Softball team had its final two games
here of the Gulf South Conference/Midwest Crossover
Tournament cancelled after an overnight rainstorm made
the fields unplayable at the GW Henderson Complex.
Tech, who was scheduled to play Indianapolis and Lewis
[IL] on Sunday, completed play at the event with a 3-1
record as the Golden Suns collected a 6-3 win over
Southern Indiana and a 6-5 win over Missouri-St. Louis
on Friday and then earned a 3-2 win over Drury [MO] on
Saturday. Tech’s lone loss at the tournament came to No.
1 ranked SIU Edwardsville, 11-1, in Saturday’s finale.
“The fields were too wet to play, so tournament
officials decided it would be best to cancel the entire
schedule on Sunday,” Golden Suns Head Softball Coach
Gidget Pambianchi said. “I wish we could’ve played
our two games on Sunday and got some of the hangover out
of our system after Saturday’s loss.”
Tech (6-2 on the season) will return to the diamond on
Wednesday, Feb. 20, when they welcome Missouri Southern
for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. at Chartwells
Women’s Sports Complex on the Tech campus. Following
Wednesday’s doubleheader, Tech will compete this coming
weekend at the 5th-Annual Early Bird Tournament hosted
by Evangel University in Springfield, Mo. The Golden
Suns will open the tournament on Friday, Feb. 22 against
Grand View College at 10 a.m. and will also face Evangel
at 11:45 a.m. and Stephens College at 3:30 p.m.
