ARKANSAS TECH RESCHEDULES ITS NATIONAL STUDENT-ATHLETE DAY COOKOUT TO NEXT TUESDAY'S HOME BASEBALL GAME

RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas Arkansas Tech University has announced that its cookout to celebrate National Student-Athlete Day has been moved to Tuesday, April 8, at Tech’s home baseball game with the University of the Ozarks. The cookout and the game are both set to begin at 6 p.m. at Tech Field.

The National Student-Athlete Day cookout was originally scheduled for Friday, April 4 at Tech’s home softball doubleheader with Christian Brothers, but rain has forced that doubleheader to be cancelled on Friday.

“With all the rain that has already fallen overnight and the almost certain possibility of more rain to fall in the area before Friday have forced us to reschedule our cookout for National Student-Athlete Day,” said Kristy Bayer, Tech’s Head Volleyball Coach and Senior Women’s Administrator.

The cookout to celebrate National Student-Athlete Day is being organized for the purpose to honor Tech’s student-athletes for their successes both in and out of the classroom and to also honor the athletic supporters and the faculty/staff members at Tech that have helped make student-athletes success possible.

In addition to the cookout to honor Tech’s student-athletes on Friday, the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will be having a bake sale and a change drive to raise funds for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The SAAC is involved in a national fundraising project every school year and once again this year it is the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

“This event is a great opportunity to raise funds for a worthy cause, honor our student-athletes, and cheer on our Wonder Boys baseball team,” Bayer added.

National Student-Athlete Day honors student-athletes and the network of parents, coaches and teachers that make it possible for young people to strike a balance between academics and athletics. The day, established by the National Consortium for Academics & Sports and Northeastern University’s Center for the Study of Sport in Society, is co-sponsored by the NCAA and the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS).
