TECH ATHLETICS TO HOLD ITS SECOND-ANNUAL STUDENT-ATHLETE
MEET-AND-GREET PRIOR TO SATURDAY'S HOME FOOTBALL GAME
AGAINST SOUTHERN ARKANSAS
RUSSELLVILLE,
Arkansas
–
Arkansas Tech Athletics Department has announced that it
will be hosting its Second-Annual Student-Athlete
Meet-and-Greet at this Saturday’s home football game
against Southern Arkansas. The Student-Athlete Meet and
Greet is part of Tech’s “Party on the Plaza” which are
held prior to each and every home football game this
season.
Saturday’s Student-Athlete Meet-and-Greet, which is a
way for the Russellville community to get out and meet
the coaches and student-athletes at Tech, is scheduled
to begin at 4 p.m. and will end prior to kickoff of the
Wonder Boys Gulf South Conference contest with the
Muleriders.
“One of the biggest advantages that NCCA Division II has
is that out student-athletes and coaches are accessible
to the public,” Tech Head Volleyball Coach and Senior
Women’s Administrator Kristy Bayer said. “Each
team will have a booth with an activity or theme so that
students, community members and alumni can meet our
student athletes, pick up their schedules and earn free
prizes.”
All the events are designed to be family oriented, which
give the young people an opportunity to make a
connection with a Wonder Boy or a Golden Sun. Some of
the events include face painting, putt-putt golf, a dunk
tank, a High Striker game and a Football Toss. All the
proceeds of Saturday’s even will be going to the
Make-A-Wish Foundation.
“Our initial Student-Athlete Meet-and-Greet was a huge
success last year and I expect it to even be better this
year,” Bayer said.
Last year’s event earned Tech its second consecutive
$500 community service grant from the NCAA for its
Division II community engagement efforts. Tech was one
of 20 NCAA Division II schools and one Division II
conference that were awarded $500 community service
grants last year.
