ARKANSAS TECH FINISHES SECOND IN 2007-08 GSC WOMEN'S
ALL-SPORTS TROPHY STANDINGS

Arkansas Tech completed one of the most successful
seasons in women’s athletics since joining the Gulf
South Conference in 1996 this year as the Golden Suns
finished second out of 15 league schools in the 2007-08
GSC Women’s All-Sports Trophy standings.
Tech, who scored 56.5 points in the GSC Women’s
All-Sports Trophy standings, had all six of its women’s
sports teams qualify for the GSC Tournament in their
respective sport and had the softball team complete its
finest season in school history by taking home the GSC
West Division title and falling in the championship game
of the GSC Softball Tournament.
In
addition to the softball team’s GSC West Division title,
the women’s basketball team scored 14 points in the
all-sports standings after finishing second in the GSC
West Division and runner-up at the GSC Tournament for
the second consecutive season, while the cross country
team scored 10 points in the all-sports standings after
finishing sixth at this past year’s GSC Championship
Meet. The volleyball team scored 8.5 points, while the
tennis team scored 6.5 points and the golf team scored
5.5 points to make up Tech’s point total.
West Florida took home the 2007-08 GSC Women’s
All-Sports Trophy for the third consecutive season after
scoring 67.5 points. The Lady Argonauts won the GSC
title in women’s golf and finished as runners-up in
tennis, soccer and volleyball and was third in cross
country.
Behind West Florida and Tech in the women’s standings
was Harding in third place with 54 points and North
Alabama in fourth place with 52 points. Those four
schools were the only ones to score 50 or more points.
Meanwhile, on the men’s side, Valdosta State took home
the 2007-08 GSC Men’s All-Sports Trophy after scoring 57
points on the year. The Blazers won the all-sports
trophy for the fourth time and first since 2003-04 as
they finished first in tennis, second in football, third
in golf and fourth in baseball. VSU won the East
Division regular season baseball title.
The
Wonder Boys scored 30.5 points in the GSC Men’s
All-Sports standings to finish in ninth place, but was
1.5 points behind Montevallo (32.0) for eighth place.
During the 2007-08 season, the men’s basketball team
qualified for the GSC Basketball Tournament for the
first time since the 1999-00 season and golf team
finished fifth at the GSC Championships.
When combining the men’s and women’s scores together,
Tech finished fifth overall as they scored 87.0 total
points on the season. UWF had the highest combined score
with 110.0 points and was followed by Harding in second
with 104.5 points, North Alabama was third with 103.0
points and Valdosta State was fourth with 99.5 points.
