Arkansas Tech punter Glen Wilson has
been selected as the Pizza Hut National Special Teams Player of the Week.
Wilson, a 6-1, 205 junior from Conroe, Texas, booted four punts for a
48.8 average --- 10 yards better than his season average --- in the Wonder Boys'
42-24 NCAA second round playoff loss to No. 2-ranked Albany State last Saturday.
He is the second Tech player to receive national player of the week honors this
season. Cedric Cursh, a sophomore defensive end from Foreman, was named as the
national defensive player of the week by Don Hansen's National Football Gazette
following his performance in Tech's first round playoff win over Catawba.
Against Albany State on a rainy afternoon, Wilson got off punts of 46, 48, 41
and 60 yards.
Wilson finished out the 2004 season with 59 punts for 2,274 yards ---- an
average of 38.5 yards per punt. He placed 20 of those punts inside the
opponent's 20-yard line and had none blocked.
The national award is made by Pizza Hut, in conjunction with d2football.com.
The Tech-Albany State game ---- billed as the nation's Division II spotlight
game of the day by USA Today ---- also produced the national defensive player of
the week in William Felton, Albany's standout strong safety.
Felton was credited with 9 tackles, seven of which were solo efforts; three pass
interceptions that he returned for 153 yards ---- including one for 63 yards and
a touchdown ---- and three pass breakups.
