Arkansas Tech's Cedric Cursh has been named the national defensive player of the week by Don Hansen's National Football Gazette for his performance against Catawba College last Saturday.

Cursh, a 6-3, 215-pound sophomore defensive end from Foreman, played an instrumental role in Tech's 24-20 NCAA first-round playoff win over Catawba while extending the Wonder Boys' season record to 10-1.

Against the Indians, Cursh finished with 10 tackles, 5 of which were solo efforts; had 2 tackles for losses of 9 yards, one quarterback sack for a loss of 7 yards; forced one fumble and recovered two fumbles.

His sack of Catawba quarterback Luke Samples in the end zone with 1:45 left in the third period gave the Wonder Boys a 21-20 lead and his forced fumbled and fumble recovery at Tech's 47-yard line with 38 seconds left in the game sealed the 4-point win.
