Hayes, Ewersmann named to academic
all-district team

Arkansas Tech's Jonathan Hayes and Mark Ewersmann have been named
to the Academic All-America District VI Football Team for 2004.
To be named on the academic honor squad, which is sponsored by the College
Sports Information Directors of America, a player must be a starter or
significant reserve with legitimate athletic credentials, must have a minimum
3.20 grade point average on a 4.00 scale, must have reached sophomore status and
cannot be a redshirt or transfer student, and must have completed at least one
full academic year at the institution.
District VI is composed of all colleges and universities in Texas, Oklahoma, New
Mexico, Louisiana, Mississippi and Arkansas.

Hayes, a senior from Sheridan, carries a 3.71 grade point average with a
double major in nuclear technology and electrical engineering with a minor in
mathematics.
Hayes, who has now started 16 consecutive games for the Wonder Boys, is an
offensive guard on a line that has allowed only three quarterback sacks in 10
games this fall and helped Tech to average 405.3 offensive yards per game.
Named as one of the Gulf South Conference Top 8 Athletes in 2003-04,
he has been a first-team all-conference selection, a three-time selection to the
All-Gulf South Academic Football Team and a three-time member of the conference
academic honor roll.
He is the son of Edward and Shelly Hayes and is a 2001 honor graduate
of Sheridan High School, where he earned eight athletic letters in four sports.

Mark Ewersmann |
Ewersmann, a junior from Little Rock, carries a 3.34 grade point average
as a management and marketing major.
In his first full season as the Wonder Boys' kicker, Ewersmann has seen action
in all 10 games this fall and is Tech's leading scorer with 57 points.
He has successfully kicked 45 of his 47 point-after attempts this fall,
including 34 in a row. And he has successfully kicked all four of his field goal
attempts, the longest being from 32 yards. Career-wise, Ewersmann is 49-of-51 in
point-after kicks and 6-8 in field goals, with a long of 42 yards.
He was named as the Gulf South Conference special teams player-of-the-week
following his performance against Northeastern State earlier this season, a game
in which he booted 7-of-7 point-afters and nailed a 27-yard field goal.
Ewersmann is a two-time member of the Gulf South Conference academic honor roll.
He is the son of Butch and Jan Ewersmann and is a 2002 honor graduate
of Little Rock Catholic High School, where he earned seven athletic letters in
three sports.
Since 1989, Tech has had 67 student-athletes named to CoSIDA Academic
All-District VI teams.
