September 27, 2004

The Arkansas Tech football coaching staff has selected its most valuable players from the Wonder Boys' 42-28 Gulf South Conference win over the University of West Alabama last Saturday afternoon in Livingston, Ala.

Offensive honors went to wide receiver Mark Caldwell, a 6-3, 196-pound sophomore from Crossett. Caldwell graded out 86 percent with three pass receptions for 101 yards, two knock downs and two explosions. His longest pass reception, 69 yards, set up Tech's first touchdown of the game.

LaMarcus Irvin, a 5-11, 185-pound sophomore from Dallas, Texas, took defensive honors with an 84 percent grade. Irvin had 4 total tackles, three of which were solo efforts; one tackle for a loss; six hits; and one pass interception which was returned 37 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter to give the Wonder Boys a 14-0 lead.

Special team honors went to Rico Brown, a 6-2, 210-pound sophomore from Crossett. He collected 17 points from the staff and made an on-side kick recovery in the third period after West Alabama had gotten to within 35-21 of the Wonder Boys.
