Tech's Reeves named
GSC West pitcher of the week
April 20,
2005
For the first time this season, a
member of Arkansas Tech's baseball pitching staff has been named Gulf South
Conference West Division pitcher of the week.
Nick Reeves, a senior left-hander from Nashville, Ark., earned the honor for the
period ending Sunday, April 17.
Reeves' award is based on his complete game, 3-hit shutout of the University of
Central Arkansas during game two of last weekend's series between the Wonder
Boys and the Bears.
Reeves struck out four and walked just two during seven innings of work. It was
the first complete game shutout by a Tech pitcher this season, and the first by
a Wonder Boy since Jarrod Fannin threw a 3-hit shutout at Arkansas-Monticello on
March 13, 2004.
Reeves also contributed with his bat during the weekend series against UCA. He
was 5-for-11 with three home runs and eight runs batted in during the 3-game set
as he helped Tech sweep the series. Reeves has hit a home run in six consecutive
games and is second on the team this season in home runs (9) and RBIs (38).
The Wonder Boys (23-19 overall, 12-6 GSC) are in second place in the GSC West
Division standings with two weeks remaining in the regular season. The top four
teams in the final GSC West standings will advance to the Gulf South Conference
Tournament, which will be played May 7-11 at USA Stadium in Millington, Tenn.
Tech will continue its pursuit of a postseason berth this weekend when it visits
Henderson State for a 3-game series in Arkadelphia. The two sides will play a
doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday and a single game starting at 1 p.m.
Sunday. Russellville radio station KCAB 980 AM will broadcast all three games.
