GOLDEN SUNS FINISH SECOND AT WEST GEORGIA INVITATIONAL

        CARROLLTON, Georgia – Arkansas Tech Women’s Golf concluded play here Tuesday in the West Georgia Invitational held at Oak Mountain Championship Golf Course with a second place finish.

Tech, who was eight shots off the team lead following Monday’s first round of action, finished the two-day event shooting a 683 to finish in second place, 22 shots in front of third place Lindenwood University and West Georgia (705). Shorter [GA] College won the team title after firing a 36-hole total of 651.

The Golden Suns shot a 346 in the second round after firing a 337 in Monday’s first round.

Leading the way for Tech were senior Jamie Moore (Conway, Ark.) and sophomore Danielle Lewis (Toronto, Canada), who fired 166s for 36 holes to finish tied for fourth. Moore carded rounds of 78 and 88, while Lewis had back-to-back rounds of 83 for Tech.

Shorter’s Daniela Vargas won individual medalist honors as she fired a 156 to finish two shots in front of West Georgia’s Natalie Beach and six shots in front of Shorter’s Johanna Babra. Vargas, who shot an 83 in the first round, came back and fired a low round of 73 in Tuesday’s finale.

Other Tech finishers behind Moore and Lewis were senior Carissa Sullivan (Van Buren, Ark.), who finished tied for 14th place after shooting a 36-hole total of 174. Sullivan had rounds of 85 and 89. Sophomore Casey Wheeler (Little Rock, Ark.) fired a 177 (91, 86) to finish in 19th place and junior Cassie Bartley (Shirley, Ark.) shot a two-day, 36-hole total of 195 (91, 104) to finish in 24th place.

Tech will return to action on April 16-17 when they compete at the Harding Spring Invitational held at the Red Apple Inn in Heber Springs, Ark.
