GOLDEN SUNS CLOSE FALL SEASON WITH SEVENTH-PLACE FINISH
AT UCO BRONCHO MASTERS INVITATIONAL

        EDMOND, Oklahoma – Arkansas Tech Golden Suns Golf concluded its fall season here Tuesday with a seventh-place finish out of 10 teams at the 2008 UCO Broncho Masters Invitational held at Fairfax Golf Club.

Tech finished the two-day, 36-hole event with a 681 to finish three shots behind sixth place St. Mary’s [TX] and 17 shots in front of eighth place Newman University (698). St. Edward’s [TX] took home the team title as they shot a 629 on the par-72 Fairfax Golf Club course, while Central Oklahoma, the host team, shot a 642 to finish in second place.

The Golden Suns opened the tournament by firing a 333 and then shot a 348 in Tuesday’s final round that featured steady winds of 20-30 miles per hour with gusts up to 40 miles per hour.

Leading the way for Tech was senior Casey Wheeler (Little Rock, Ark.). Wheeler carded a season-best 167 to finish in 20th place. Wheeler fired an 82 in Monday’s first round and then shot an 85 in Tuesday’s final round.

UCO’s Emily Leahey took home individual medalist honors as she fired a 151 for 36 holes. St. Edwards’ teammates, Dina O’Brien and Kirby Baker each fired 153s to finish tied for second place.

In addition to Wheeler, senior Danielle Lewis (Toronto, Ont.) shot a two-day total of 170 to finish tied for 26th place. Lewis shot an 81 in the first round and then fired an 89 in Tuesday’s final round. Sophomore Kyla McIsaac (Kentville, Nova Scotia) shot a 36-hole total 172 (86, 86) to finish tied for 31st place, while freshman Alyssia Duvall (Greenwood, Ark.) carded a 174 (84, 90) to finish tied for 35th place and sophomore Ana Morales (Bogota, Colombia) shot a 181 to finish in 45th place. Morales shot a 93 in the first round, but rebounded to shoot an 88 in the final round.
