GOLDEN SUNS PLACE TWO ON ALL-GSC WOMEN'S GOLF TEAMS

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama Arkansas Tech’s Women’s Golf team had two players named to the first-ever, selection based All-Gulf South Conference Team on Friday by the league office.

Tech placed one player, senior Jamie Moore (Conway, Ark.) on the All-GSC First-Team and one player, sophomore Danielle Lewis (Toronto, Ont.) named to the Second-Team.

The women’s golf coaches in the league voted for the team and the coaches weren’t allowed to vote for their own players. The GSC Coach of the Year will still be awarded to the head coach of the team that wins the GSC Championship, while the league’s Freshman of the Year will be the highest freshman finisher at next week’s GSC Championship.

Just like the men’s All-GSC team, West Florida led the way with four members on the two-team squad, including three First-Team selections, while Tech and Henderson State each had two selections apiece. Harding was the other school that had representation on the All-GSC team.

Moore, who is one of four seniors on the All-GSC teams, earned First-Team honors after averaging a team-best 83.9 in 19 rounds of the golf and nine tournaments. On the season, Moore has had three Top 5 finishes, including a season-best third at the Harding Spring Invitational. Had a season-best low round of 161 at the Deerfield Inn Region Shootout and shot a season-low 79 in the first round of the Pepsi/Lady Lion Invitational hosted by Texas A&M Commerce University.

Lewis, who was one three sophomores named to the All-GSC teams, earned Second-Team honors this season after averaging 84.8 in 19 rounds of golf and nine tournaments. On the season, three Top 10 finishes, including a season-best second place finish at the Christian Brothers Spring Tournament. Shot a season-low round of 78 at the CBU Spring Tournament and fired a season-best 160 enroute to winning the CBU Spring Tournament.

Moore was joined on the All-GSC First Team by Henderson State’s Jenna Chadwick, along with the UWF threesome of Clara Fornella, Vicky Jackson and Sarah Nicholson.

Meanwhile, Lewis is joined on the All-GSC Second-Team by Harding’s Taren Massey, Henderson State’s Meredith Mosel and West Florida’s Natalia Espinosa.

Moore, Lewis and the rest of their Golden Sun teammates will return to action this coming week when they compete at the 2007 Region’s Bank/Gulf South Conference Golf Championships at the Hot Springs Country Club in Hot Springs, Ark. The meet will get underway with 18 holes on Sunday, April 22 and will conclude with another 18 holes on Monday, April 23.
