GOLDEN SUNS FINISH THIRD AT NATURAL STATE GOLF CLASSIC

Women’s Golf saw its streak of winning tournaments
snapped here on Tuesday as the Golden Suns shot 697 for
36 holes to finish in third place out of eight teams at
this year’s Natural State Golf Classic hosted by Harding
University and held here at the Red Apple Inn and
Country Club.
Prior to finishing third at the Natural State Classic,
the Golden Suns had won three consecutive tournaments
this spring.
Tech, who shot a 346 in Monday’s first round and then
fired a 351 in Tuesday’s final round, finished 18 shots
in front of fourth-place Rhodes College (715) and 33
shots behind second-place Harding (664).
Senior Danielle Lewis (Toronto, Ont.) was Tech’s
top finisher as she carded a 167 for 36 holes to finish
in a seventh place tie. Lewis, who has now finished in
the Top 10 in her last four tournaments, fired an 82 in
the first round and then shot an 85 in the final round.
Henderson State took home the team title as the Lady
Reddies carded a 653 for 36 holes. Stephanie Mingos of
Rhodes College was the individual medalist after
defeating HSU’s Julie Robinson in a playoff. Mingos and
Robinson each shot 36-hole totals of 158.
In
addition to Lewis, sophomore Kyla McIsaac (Kentville,
Nova Scotia) carded a 170 (87, 83) to finish tied for
ninth place, while freshman Alyssia Duvall
(Greenwood, Ark.) shot a two-day total of 176 (85, 91)
to finish in 15th place and freshman Kristina
Villines (Compton, Ark.) fired a 184 (92, 92) to
finish in 21st place. With her ninth-place finish,
McIsaac has now finished in the Top 10 in her last four
tournaments.
The Golden Suns will next hit the links at the 2009
Gulf South Conference Championships at the Hot Springs
Country Club on April 19-20. The teams will play 18
holes each day. Last season, the Golden Suns shot a 682
to finish in fifth place.
