GOLDEN SUNS GOLF FINISHES SIXTH AT UWF'S BUBBA WATSON INVITATIONAL

        PACE, Florida The Arkansas Tech Women’s Golf team completed play here Tuesday in the University of West Florida’s Bubba Watson Invitational with a sixth place finish out of seven teams at the Stonebrook Golf Club.

Tech finished the two-day, 36-hole event by shooting a 701 to finish 43 shots in front of sixth-place Lincoln University (744) and 52 shots behind fifth-place Northeastern State (649). The Golden Suns opened the tournament by firing a 345 in the first round and the shot a 356 in Tuesday’s final round.

Leading the way for the Golden Suns was redshirt sophomore Ana Morales (Bogota, Colombia). Morales, who was an All-GSC selection as a freshman in 2008, carded a 36-hole total of 168 to finish in a tie for 22nd place. Morales shot an 87 in the final round, after firing an 81 in Monday’s first round.

Florida Southern took home the team title as the Lady Moccasins shot a two-day total of 611. West Florida, the meet’s host school and St. Edward’s each shot a 635 to finish tied for second place. Florida Southern’s Melanie Audette took home individual medalist honors as she shot a 152 (82, 70) and defeated Northeastern State’s Whitney McAteer (152) in a playoff.

In addition to Morales, sophomore Alyssia DuVall (Greenwood, Ark.) shot a 172 for 36 holes to finish in 27th place. DuVall carded rounds of 81 and 91 respectively. Junior Kyla McIsaac (Kentville, Nova Scotia), Tech’s top returner from last season, shot a 173 (99, 84) to finish in a tie for 28th place, while redshirt freshman Niki Possage (Dardanelle, Ark.) carded a two-day total of 189 to finish in 34th place and freshman Ashley Gourley (Farmington, Ark.) shot a 193 in her first collegiate meet to finish in 35th place. Possage had rounds of 95 and 94 respectively and Gourley shot a 94 in the first round and then fired a 99 in the final round.

Tech will continue its fall season on Oct. 5-6 when the Golden Suns travel to Edmond, Okla., to compete in the UCO Broncho Masters Classic hosted by the University of Central Oklahoma.
