FORT SMITH, Arkansas For the second consecutive year, the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns Golf team repeated as champions of the UA-Fort Smith Lion Classic hosted by the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith. The tournament took place at the Hardscrabble Country Club and was the first of five scheduled tournaments for the Golden Suns this spring.

The Golden Suns shot a 36-hole team total of 692, edging the host school, UAFS by four strokes (696).

Leading the way for Tech was sophomore Kyla McIsaac (Kentville, Nova Scotia), who fired a two-day total of 170 (86-85), which was good for fourth place overall in the tournament.

Southwestern College’s Courtney Nupport won individual medalist honors as she fired a 164 (80-84) for 36 holes and she bested Lacy Martin of UAFS by three strokes (167).

In addition to McIssac, other finishers for the Golden Suns were senior Danielle Lewis (Toronto, Ont.), who finished in fifth place after shooting a 171 (86-85), while senior Casey Wheeler (Little Rock, Ark.) placed ninth overall after carding a 174 (85-89) for 36 holes and freshman Alyssia Duvall (Greenwood, Ark.) shot a 177 (87-90) to finish in 11th place. Sophomore Ana Morales (Bogota, Colombia) carded an opening round 91, but an injury prevented her competing in the second round.

The Golden Suns will next compete March 9-10 in the University of Arkansas-Monticello Weevil Invitational in Pine Bluff, Ark.
