GOLDEN SUNS REPEAT AS CHAMPIONS AT THIS YEAR'S
UA-FORT SMITH LION GOLF CLASSIC

For the second
consecutive year, the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns Golf
team repeated as champions of the UA-Fort Smith Lion
Classic hosted by the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith.
The tournament took place at the Hardscrabble Country
Club and was the first of five scheduled tournaments for
the Golden Suns this spring.
The
Golden Suns shot a 36-hole team total of 692, edging the
host school, UAFS by four strokes (696).
Leading the way for Tech was sophomore Kyla McIsaac
(Kentville, Nova Scotia), who fired a two-day total of
170 (86-85), which was good for fourth place overall in
the tournament.
Southwestern College’s Courtney Nupport won individual
medalist honors as she fired a 164 (80-84) for 36 holes
and she bested Lacy Martin of UAFS by three strokes
(167).
In
addition to McIssac, other finishers for the Golden Suns
were senior Danielle Lewis (Toronto, Ont.), who
finished in fifth place after shooting a 171 (86-85),
while senior Casey Wheeler (Little Rock, Ark.)
placed ninth overall after carding a 174 (85-89) for 36
holes and freshman Alyssia Duvall (Greenwood,
Ark.) shot a 177 (87-90) to finish in 11th place.
Sophomore Ana Morales (Bogota, Colombia) carded
an opening round 91, but an injury prevented her
competing in the second round.
The Golden Suns will next compete March 9-10
in the University of Arkansas-Monticello Weevil
Invitational in Pine Bluff, Ark.
