Arkansas
Tech Women’s Golf concluded play here Tuesday in the
2008 Arkansas Blue Cross & Blue Shield/Gulf South
Conference Championships at the Hot Springs Country Club
with a fifth place finish.
Tech, who was in fifth place after shooting a 352 in
Sunday’s first round, carded a 330 in the final round to
shot a score of 682 over 36 holes to finish in fifth
place out of nine teams. Despite its fifth-place finish,
Tech’s final round score of 330 was the fourth best 18
hole score for the women on the day.
“We put ourselves in a bind after our disappointing
first round on Sunday and that was too much ground to
make up today,” Golden Suns second-year coach Amy
White said. “I am proud of the way we shot today,
but we had too big of a deficit to make up.
“We have a young team, but I’m excited about the players
we have coming back next season.”
West Florida won the GSC Championship for the third
consecutive season as the Lady Argonauts fired a 36-hole
total of 624 to finish 26 shots in front of runner-up,
Montevallo (650) and 27 shots in front of third place
Henderson State (651). Harding came in fourth place as
the Lady Bison shot a 669 for the two-day event. In
Sunday’s first round, Harding fired a 336 and then shot
a 333 in the final round.

(Bogota, Columbia). Morales, who was a First-Team
All-GSC selection on Friday, fired a 36 hole total of
163 to finish tied for ninth place. After shooting an 84
in the first round, Morales rebounded and carded a 79 in
Monday’s final round. The ninth place finish was the
highest individual finish for a Golden Sun golfer since
the tournament’s inception in 2005.
West Florida Natalina Espinosa took home individual
medalist honors as she shot a 152 (74, 78) for 36 holes.
Henderson State’s Jenna Chadwick shot a 154 (76, 78) to
finish second, while West Florida teammates, Meaghan
Gulliksen (80, 76) and Bhavna Shetty (79, 77) shot 156s
to finish in a tie for third place.
In addition to Morales, senior Cassie Bartley
(Shirley, Ark.) shot a season-best 170 to finish tied
for 17th place. Bartley, who played her final round as a
collegiate golfer on Monday, shot an 80 in the final
round after carding a 90 in Sunday’s first round.
Freshman Kyla McIsaac (Kentville, Nova Scotia)
