GOLDEN SUNS RECEIVE FIVE VOTES IN FINAL GOLF WORLD/NGCA
DIVISION II TOP 25 COACHES' POLL

Tech Women’s Golf received five votes in the final Golf
World/NGCA Division II Coaches’ Poll of the 2007-08
season that was released on Wednesday. It is the first
time in school history that Tech has received votes in
the poll.
The rankings for the Golf World/NGCA Division II
Coaches’ poll are determined by the Golf Coaches
Association of America (GCAA) and are voted on every
three weeks during the season.
In Wednesday’s final poll of the season, Tech was one of
20 teams to receive votes in the poll. In addition, Tech
was one three Gulf South Conference schools that were
either ranked of received votes in this week’s final
poll.
West Florida, the two-time defending GSC champions,
finished the season ranked ninth as they earned 206
points. Henderson State received 10 votes and was fifth
among teams receiving votes, while Tech was 11th among
teams receiving votes.
The Golden Suns, who finished fifth at this year’s GSC
Championship Meet in Hot Springs, Ark., had five Top 3
finishes in tournaments this past season, including
winning tournament titles at the Rhodes Fall Classic in
Tunica, Miss., and at the UAFS Lady Lions Spring Classic
in Fort Smith, Ark. In addition, Tech shot an average of
348.1 in 17 rounds of golf and nine tournaments.
Florida Southern headlines the final poll of the season
as they earned 340 points and six of the possible 14
first place votes. Rollins, who was the No. 1 team the
past two polls, falls to No. 2 as they received 336
points and four first-place votes, while Nova
Southeastern earned 311 points and the final four
first-place votes. Tarleton State and Grand Valley State
round out the Top 5 at Nos. 4 and 5 respectively.
The next five begins with Barry at No. 6 and is followed
by Ferris State at No. 7 and Lynn [FL] at No. 8. West
Florida at No. 9 and California [PA] at No. 10 complete
the Top 10.
Northeastern State drops two spots to No. 11 and is
followed by Indianapolis at No. 12 and St. Edward’s at
No. 13. Northern Kentucky moves up one spot to No. 14,
while Nebraska-Omaha and Upper Iowa are ranked 15th and
16th respectively. Western Washington remains 17th and
is followed by Western New Mexico at No. 18, Belmont
Abbey and Drury are tied at No. 19.
The final five of the poll begins with CSU-Monterey Bay
at No. 21 and they are followed by Augustana and Saint
Martin’s at No. 22, Southern Indiana at No. 24 and Chico
State rounds out the final poll at No. 25.
Other teams receiving votes besides Tech and Henderson
State included Minnesota State (32), West Texas A&M
(28), North Dakota (15), Lincoln Memorial (11),
Concordia-St. Paul (8), Lewis (7), Anderson (6), Cameron
(6), Dallas Baptist (6), Grand Canyon (5), Truman State
(4), Bellarmine (3), Central Oklahoma (2),
SIU-Edwardsville (2), TAMU-Commerce (2), Catawba (1),
Findlay (1) and Hawai’i Hilo (1).
