WONDER BOYS FINISH FIFTH AT WEATHER-SHORTENED
DRURY PASTA HOUSE SPRING INVITATIONAL

SPRINGFIELD, Missouri – Arkansas Tech Men’s Golf finished in fifth place at the weather-shortened Drury/Pasta House Spring Invitational held at the Highland Springs Country Club.

The 12 teams at the tournament played two rounds on Monday, but the weather, which featured rain and heavy rains, forced tournament officials to cancel Tuesday’s final round. At the tournament, none of the teams or players had a round below par due to windy conditions on the first day on the 7,057-yard course.

Tech finished the tournament with a score of 663 to finish in fifth place and was one shot in front of sixth place Southwest Baptist (664) and nine shots behind fourth place West Texas A&M (654). The Wonder Boys carded rounds of 331 and 332.

Central Missouri took home the team title as the Mules shot a 36-hole total of 648 (334-314), while the host team, Drury University, shot a score of 649 (326-323) to finish in second place.

Leading the way for Tech was senior B.J. Hawkins (Winnsboro, Texas), who carded a 161 to finish in a tie for sixth place. Hawkins shot an 81 in the first round and then fired an 80 in Monday’s second round.

West Texas A&M’s Brandon Holub and Central Missouri’s Jared King, who was golfing as an individual, each shot eight-over par 152s to take home individual medalist honors. Drury’s Andrew Funk carded a 155 to finish in third place.

In addition to Hawkins, junior Jonathon Spikes (Danville, Ark.) shot a 162 to finish in a tie for 12th place. Spikes carded rounds of 79 and 83 respectively. Junior Drew Richards (Prescott, Ark.) shot a 170 (88, 82) to finish tied for 35th place, while seniors Jarred Carlyle (Nashville, Ark.) and Taylor Wallner (Fayetteville, Ark.) shot 173s to finish tied for 43rd place. Carlyle shot rounds of 86 and 87 and Wallner carded rounds of 85 and 88 respectively.

Tech will return to action next week when they travel to Sheffield, Ala., to compete in the North Alabama Spring Classic held at the Lightning Joe Course on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail.
