WONDER BOYS TAKES HOME TEAM TITLE AT HARDING BISON
FALL GOLF CLASSIC
HEBER SPINGS, Arkansas –
Arkansas Tech Men’s Golf won its second consecutive fall
tournament here Tuesday at the Red Apple Inn Country
Club as the Wonder Boys took home first place honors at
the Harding Bison Fall Golf Classic.
Tech, who took home first place at the Ouachita Baptist
Invitational on Sept. 11-12, shot a 36-hole total of 583
to finish two shots in front of second place, University
of Arkansas-Fort Smith (585) and 15 shots in front of
third place Harding (598). The Wonder Boys shot a 287 in
the final round to come back from a 10-shot deficit to
defeat UAFS. Tech fired a 296 in Monday’s first round,
while UAFS shot a 286.
Leading the way for Tech was sophomore Jarred Carlyle
(Nashville, Ark.), who shot a one-over 143 to finish in
fourth place. Carlyle, who shot a 76 in the first round,
rebounded to fire a 67 in the final round.
Buddy Wilkins from UAFS won individual medalist honors
as he shot a two-under par 140 over the 36-hole course.
Central Baptist’s Forrest Carvajal and UAFS’ Trevor
Earls finished tied for second after shooting an
even-par 142.
In
addition to Carlyle, sophomore Scott Genoway
(Calgary, Alberta) finished in fifth place after firing
a two-over par 144 as he shot a 75 and 69 respectively
for the meet. Senior Byron Thom (Squamish, B.C.)
finished tied for seventh after shooting a 147 for the
36 holes. Thom shot a 73 in the first round and then
fired a 74 in the second round.
Senior Luke Calcatera (Keller, Texas) finished in
10th place after firing a 36-hole total of 149.
Calcatera shot 72 in the first round and a 77 in the
final round. Freshman Ryan Hitt (Allen, Texas)
finished tied for 18th with sophomore B.J. Hawkins
(Winnsboro, Texas). Both Hitt (77, 77) and Hawkins (76,
78) shot 36-hole totals of 154. The final finisher,
senior Scott Sellers (Squamish, B.C.) shot a 156
to finish tied for 24th as he golfed as an individual.
Sellers, who shot a 77 in the first round, fired a 79 in
the final round.
Tech will return to action on Oct. 2-3 when they compete
at the Drury Invitational at the Rivercut Golf Course in
Springfield, Mo.

Meanwhile,
at the OBU Invitational on Sept. 11-12 held at the
Belvedere Country Club in Hot Spring, Ark., Tech’s ‘A’
Team took home first place honors after shooting a 592
for the 36-hole event, while Tech’s ‘B’ Team finished
third after shooting a 619 for 36 holes.
Carlyle won the individual medalist honors after firing
a 144 for 36 holes, while Calcatera finished in second
place after firing a 148. Both Carlyle and Calcatera
participated on the ‘A’ Team. Carlyle shot a 74 in the
first round and then fired a 70 in the final round,
while Calcatera shot a 75 and a 73 respectively.
Meanwhile, freshman Scott Strasner (Russellville,
Ark.) was the top finisher for the ‘B’ Team as he shot a
150 over 36 holes. Strasner, who shot a 79 in the first
round, rebounded to shot a 71 in the final round.
