WONDER BOYS RECEIVE TWO VOTES IN PRESEASON
GOLF WORLD/NIKE GOLF DIVISION II COACHES' POLL

Tech’s Men’s Golf team received two votes in the
Preseason Golf World/Nike Golf Division II
Coaches’ Poll that was released late last week.
The rankings for the Golf World/Nike Golf poll
are determined by the Golf Coaches Association of
America (GCAA) and are voted on every three weeks during
the season.
In last week’s preseason poll, Tech was one of 32 squads
to receive votes. The Wonder Boys ended last season with
its sixth NCAA Division II Regional appearance since
1996 and its first since the 2004 season.
Tech, who finished second at last season’s GSC
Championships, is one of four Gulf South Conference
schools that are either ranked or receiving votes in
this year’s preseason D-II Coaches’ Poll.
North Alabama opens the season ranked sixth as the Lions
earned 312 points, while West Florida is ranked 14th
after receiving 189 points and Valdosta State is ranked
20th in the preseason poll. Tech was the only GSC school
to earn votes in the preseason poll.
Georgia College opens the 2009-10 season as the
top-ranked team as they earned 390 points and five first
place votes, while Barry earned 386 points and four
first place votes to open at No. 2 and Columbus State is
ranked third as they earned one first place vote and 368
points. Lynn (1 first place vote) and Sonoma State (7
first place votes), the defending NCAA D-II National
Champion, open the season ranked fourth and fifth
respectively.
Following UNA in the poll is Florida Southern at No. 7
and Central Oklahoma opens at No. 8. CSU-San Bernardino
is ranked ninth and USC-Aiken rounds out the preseason
Top 10 at No. 10.
Nova Southeastern headlines the next 10 at No. 11 and
they are followed by CSU-Stanislaus at No. 12 and
Indianapolis at No. 13. West Florida is ranked 14th and
the Argonauts are followed by Chico State at No. 15 and
Clayton State at No. 16. Ferris State and Lander are
tied for No. 17, while Grand Canyon and Valdosta State
round out the Top 20 at Nos. 19 and 20 respectively.
The final five begins with St. Edward’s at No. 21 and
they are followed by Northeastern State at No. 22 and
CU-Colorado Springs at No. 23. CSU-Monterey Bay and
Newberry are tied at No. 24 to complete the preseason
poll.
Other teams receiving votes besides Tech include
Washburn (67), Rollins [FL] (66), Barton (56), Indiana
[PA] (54), Coker 46, Flagler (41), Western Washington
(38), Wayne State (37), Hawaii-Hilo (31), Fairmont State
(22), Abilene Christian (17), Armstrong Atlantic State
(15), Bellarmine (13), Eckerd (12), Ohio Valley (12),
Belmont Abbey (11), Central Missouri (10), Carson-Newman
(9), St. Thomas Aquinas (9), Concord (8), Grand Valley
State (8), UNC-Pembroke (7), Cameron (6), UC-San Diego
(6), Queens U. [NC] (5), Winona State (5), Northern
Kentucky (4), Catawba (3), Pfeiffer (3), St. Mary’s [TX]
(3) and Florida Tech (2).
Tech will open its 2009-10 season on Sept. 21-22 when
they travel to Duncan, Okla., to compete in The
Territory Classic hosted by Cameron University.
