WONDER BOYS COMPLETES FIRST ROUND OF DERRALL FOREMAN COLLEGIATE GOLF CLASSIC IN A TIE FOR FOURTH PLACE

        CLEVELAND, Mississippi – Arkansas Tech Men’s Golf completed the first round of the Derrall Foreman Collegiate Golf Classic here at the Cleveland Country Club by finishing in a tie for fourth place.

Tech, who shot an eight-over par 296 in the first round, enters Saturday’s final round tied for fourth place with Lindenwood, the tournament’s defending champion and six shot behind third place, Delta State White (290). Henderson State shot a four-under par 284 on windy and blustery afternoon on the 6,515-yard Cleveland Country Club course.

Leading the way for the Wonder Boys was sophomore Jonathan Spikes (Danville, Ark.), who fired a two-under par 70 to finish in a 5-way tie for second place. Spikes shot a 33 on the front nine and then carded a 37 on the back nine.

Henderson State’s Jack Bartlett heads into the second round as the golfer to beat as he carded an eight-under par 64 in Friday’s first round, while HSU’s Simon Ramirez, North Alabama teammates, Wes Smith and Brett Munson and Mobile’s Chris Kennedy all joined Spikes in second place after shooting a first-round score of 70.

In addition to Spikes, sophomore Ryan Hitt (Allen, Texas) fired an even-par 72 (35, 37) to finish the first round in a tie for 11th place, while junior B.J. Hawkins (Winnsboro, Texas) shot a three-over par 75 (37, 38) to finish the first round in a tie for 25th place. Junior Jarred Carlyle (Nashville, Ark.) struggled on the front nine as he shot a 42 enroute to finishing the first round with a 79 to finish in a tie for 55th place and junior Scott Genoway (Calgary, Alberta) shot an 81 (39, 42) to finish in a tie for 69th-place.

Two Tech golfers played as individuals as sophomore Lucas Ott (Yellville, Ark.) fired a two-over par 74 (37, 37) to finish in a tie for 20th place, while freshman Jacob Trammell (Cabot, Ark.) carded a 78 to finish tied for 48th place.

Tech will conclude the tournament by playing the final 18 holes on Saturday, Oct. 6 beginning at 8 a.m.
