WONDER BOYS FINISH THIRD AT HENDERSON STATE'S
DOYLE WALLACE GOLF CLASSIC

        HOT SPRINGS, Arkansas Arkansas Tech Men’s Golf continued its spring schedule by finishing third at Henderson State’s Doyle Wallace Classic held here at Hot Springs Country Club.

Tech, who shot a 299 in Monday’s first round, carded a 610 for the 36-hole, two-day event to finish five shots behind second-place Northeastern State (605) and nine shots behind the meet’s champion, Henderson State (601). In Tuesday’s final round, Tech shot a 311, which was tied for the second-best score on the round.

Leading the way for the Wonder Boys was junior Jarred Carlyle (Nashville, Ark.), who fired a 36-hole total of 148 to finish in a tie for fourth place. Carlyle opened the tournament by firing a one-under par 71 in Monday’s first round, before shooting a five-over par 77 in Tuesday’s final round.

Henderson State’s Jack Bartlett fired a two-under par 142 to take home individual medalist honors. Bartlett shot an even-par 72 in the first round and then carded a two-under 72 in the final round. Delta State’s Chase Smith finished in second place after shooting a two-day total of 145 and Northeastern State’s Jeff Cox shot a 146 to finish in third place.

In addition to Carlyle, sophomore Jonathon Spikes (Danville, Ark.) and junior Taylor Wallner (Fayetteville, Ark.), who was competing as an individual, each carded 152s to finish in a tie for eighth place. Spikes shot a 75 in the first round and then followed with a 77 in Tuesday’s final round, while Wallner shot a 77 in the first round and a 75 in the final round. Junior B.J. Hawkins (Winnsboro, Texas) and sophomore Ryan Hitt (Allen, Texas) each shot 155s to finish tied for 17th and junior Scott Genoway (Calgary, Alberta) shot a 162 (78, 74) to finish in a tie for 30th place. Hawkins carded a 77 in the first round and 78 in the final round, while Hitt shot a 76 in the first round and 79 in the final round.

Tech will continue its spring season on March 8-9 at the Battle at the Creek at Branson Creek Golf Club in Branson, Mo.
