WONDER BOYS FINISH IN FOURTH PLACE AT DELTA STATE'S
DERRALL FOREMAN INVITATIONAL
CLEVELAND, Mississippi –
Arkansas Tech Men’s Golf completed play here Saturday at
the Derrall Foreman Invitational held at the Cleveland
Country Club by shooting a 36-hole total of 585 to
finish in fourth place out of 18 teams.
Tech, who was tied for fourth place after Friday’s first
round, fired a 289 in Saturday’s final round to finish
in fourth place alone. The 289 was the second-lowest
score of the second round. North Alabama took home the
team title as the Lions fired a 572 for 36 holes, while
the host team, Delta State finished second after
shooting a two-day total of 582. Henderson State, who
was the first round leader after firing a four-under par
284, finished third after shooting a 300 in the second
round.
Leading the way for Tech was sophomore Jonathon
Spikes (Danville, Ark.), who shot a 36-hole total of
144 to finish tied for fifth place. Spikes shot a 74 in
the final round after shooting a two-under par 70 in
Friday’s first round.
Henderson State’s Jack Bartlett took home individual
medalist honors as he fired a 10-under par 134 (64, 70)
for the two-day event, while UNA’s Wes Smith finished
second after shooting a six-under par 138 (70, 68) for
36 holes.
In addition to Spikes, junior B.J. Hawkins
(Winnsboro, Texas) carded a two-over par 144 (75, 71) to
finish tied for 11th place, while junior Jarred
Carlyle (Nashville, Ark.) and sophomore Ryan Hitt
(Allen, Texas) each finished tied for 21st place
after firing four-over pars 148 for 36 holes. Carlyle
rebounded in the final round as he shot a three-under
par 69 after firing a seven-over par 79 in the first
round, while Hitt shot a 76 in the second round after
carding an even-par 72 in the first round. Other Tech
finishers included junior Scott Genoway (Calgary,
Alberta), who shot a 156 (81, 75) for 36 holes to finish
tied for 52nd place, while sophomore Lucas Ott
(Yellville, Ark.) and freshman Jacob Trammell
(Cabot, Ark.) finished tied for 43rd and 46th
respectively after competing as individuals. Ott shot a
154 (74, 80) and Trammell (78, 77) fired a 155 for the
two-day meet.
Tech will continue the fall portion of its schedule when
it competes at the Ouachita Baptist Fall Invitational in
Arkadelphia, Ark., on Oct. 15-16.
