JARRED CARLYLE NAMED AN NCAA DIVISION II
PING
ALL-SOUTH REGION SELECTION
NORMAN, Oklahoma –
Arkansas
Tech senior Jarred Carlyle (Nashville, Ark.)
capped his four-year Tech career on Wednesday by being
named an NCAA Division II Ping All-South Region
selection by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
It is the second time in his career that Carlyle has
earned Ping All-South Region honors as he also earned
All-South Region recognition following his sophomore
campaign in 2007. In addition, he becomes the school’s
first-ever two-time Division II Ping All-South Region
honoree as senior B.J. Hawkins (Winnsboro, Texas)
was honored in 2007 and former Wonder Boy Nick Quast
was honored in 2004.
“What a nice way for Jarred to be honored to close out
his four-year career at Arkansas Tech,” Wonder Boys Head
Coach Dave Falconer said. “He is one of the most
outstanding golfers to ever play in this program.”
The All-Region teams are selected by the GCAA regional
advisory committees based on their season-long play. Any
player ranked in the top 50 according to the Golfstat
individual rating will be automatically added to his
All-Region Team.
Carlyle
recently concluded his Tech career with a 16th place
finish at the NCAA Division II South/Southeast Super
Regional in Muscle Shoals, Ala. At the three-day NCAA
Super Regional, Carlyle carded a one-over par 217 to
finish in 16th place. His finish helped the Wonder Boys
finish 13th overall as a team as Tech shot an 894 at the
54-hole regional tournament.
In his four-year career at Tech, Carlyle, who was named
the GSC Freshman of the Year in 2006, was named just the
second-ever four-time All-Gulf South Conference honoree
in men’s golf in the league’s history and one of just
four Wonder Boys to earn All-League honors for four
consecutive seasons. In addition, he leaves Tech with
the second-highest career scoring average in school
history (73.8) and also leaves as the school’s all-time
leader in most par or better rounds (36) and is second
in most rounds played all-time (91). This past season,
Carlyle took home individual medalist honors at the 2009
GSC Men’s Golf Championship after shooting a
school-record 209 for 54 holes. Carlyle became the first
Wonder Boy to take home individual medalist honors at
the GSC Championship Meet. Along with those
accomplishments, Carlyle also qualified for three
consecutive NCAA Regional appearances, two as an
individual (2007 and 2008) and once with his team
(2009).
In addition to Carlyle, other GSC golfers named to the
Ping All-South Region team include Ryan Black (West
Florida), Jake Greer (North Alabama), Brett Munson
(North Alabama), Kyle Scott (West Florida), Wes Smith
(North Alabama) and Brent Witcher (Valdosta State).
