WONDER BOYS GOLF OPENS FALL SEASON WITH NINTH-PLACE
FINISH AT THE TERRITORY CLASSIC

Arkansas Tech Men’s Golf completed play here Tuesday in
the second round by shooting a 602 to finish in ninth
place out of 17 teams at the Territory Classic hosted by
Cameron University at the Territory Golf and Country
Club.
After opening the tournament by shooting a 307 in
Monday’s first round, the Wonder Boys rebounded to post
a score of 295 in Tuesday’s final round to move up from
a tie for 11th place to ninth place. In fact, six shots
separated the fourth through ninth place teams.
Tech finished three shots in front of 10th place Cameron
(605) and one shot behind eighth place West Texas A&M
(601) and three shots behind seventh place Central
Oklahoma (599).
Leading the way for Tech was senior Drew Richards
(Prescott, Ark.), who shot a 36-hole total of 148 to
finish in a tie for 16th place. Richards shot a 77 in
Monday’s first round, but posted a one-under par 71 in
Tuesday’s final round.
Dallas Baptist took home the team title as it won in a
playoff against St. Edwards, the first round leader.
Both DBU and SEU each shot a 578 for 36 holes. Abilene
Christian finished third as they shot 579 and the
University of the Southwest shot a 596 to finish in
fourth place.
While DBU took home the team title, Abilene Christian’s
Alex Carpenter took home individual medalist honors as
he fired a four-under par 140 over 36 holes. DBU’’s Nic
Tacher shot a three-under par 141 to finish in second
place, while ACU’s Cyril Bouniol and St. Edwards’
Santiago Quintero each fired two-under par 142s to
finish in a tie for third place.
In addition to Richards, other Tech finishers were
senior Jonathon Spikes (Danville, Ark.), who shot
a 149 for 36 holes to finish in a tie for 20th place.
Spikes, one of the team’s two returning golfers from
last season, shot a 75 in the first round and then fired
a 74 in the final round. Senior Ryan Hitt (Allen,
Texas) shot a 150 (76, 74) to finish tied for 29th
place, while freshman Colton Dillard (Farmington,
Ark.) carded a 155 (79, 76) to finish in a tie for 53rd
place in his collegiate debut and senior Scott
Genoway (Calgary, Alberta) fired a 166 (88, 78) to
finish in a tie for 84th place.
The Wonder Boys will return to the links next weekend
when they travel to Cleveland, Miss., to participate in
the Derrall Foreman Classic hosted by Delta State
University. The tournament will begin on Friday, Oct. 2
and will conclude on Oct. 3.
