WONDER BOYS SHOOT 894 TO FINISH IN 13TH PLACE AT THIS
YEAR'S NCAA D-II SOUTH/SOUTHEAST MEN'S GOLF SUPER
REGIONAL
MUSCLE SHOALS, Alabama –
The Arkansas Tech Men’s Golf team concluded play here
Wednesday in the 2009 NCAA Division II South/Southeast
Super Regional at the Robert Trent Jones of the Shoals
Fighting Joe Course by firing a final-round 295 to end
the tournament shooting an 894 and finish in 13th place
out of 20 teams.
Tech’s 295 on Wednesday was tied for the seventh-best
round of the day with Florida Southern and Clayton
State. Tech finished the tournament just three shots out
of 11th place (891) and eight shots behind seventh-place
Florida Southern (886).
North Alabama fired a final-round 292 to overtake
second-day leader Lynn University and take home the
Super Regional championship. The Lions shot an 868 for
54 holes to finish one shot in front of Lynn (869). The
other three teams that qualify for this year’s NCAA
Division II National Championship Meet on May 19-22 in
Bellingham, Wash., are Barry University (874), Columbus
State (875) and Georgia College & State University
(876).
Tech, who was making its sixth-ever NCAA D-II Regional
appearance and first since 2004, was one of four Gulf
South Conference schools competing in this year’s
South/Southeast Super Regional as UNA took home first
place, while Valdosta State shot an 880 to finish in
sixth place and West Florida, the defending NCAA D-II
National Champion, fired an 891 to finish tied for 11th
place.
Leading the way for Tech was senior Jarred Carlyle
(Nashville, Ark.). Carlyle, who was just the second-ever
player in league history to be named a four-time
First-Team All-GSC selection, closed the final round
with a one-under par 71 to finish the 54-hole tournament
shooting a one-over par 217 to finish in a four-way tie
for 16th place. Carlyle entered Wednesday’s final round
standing in 19th place, but moved up three spots to 16th
to be the ninth highest individual finisher not from one
of the five qualifying teams.
In addition to sending the top five teams to the NCAA
D-II National Championships, the top two individuals not
on an advancing team also qualify for nationals from the
South/Southeast Super Regional. This year’s qualifiers
are Barton College’s Jonathan Burke, who shot a
three-under par 213 to finish in a tie for second place,
while the second individual qualifier was Florida
Southern’s Brian Richey, who shot a two-under par 214 to
finish tied for fourth place.
North Alabama’s Jake Greer finished as the tournament’s
individual medalist as he carded a six-under par 210 to
finish three shots in front Burke and his UNA teammate,
Brett Munson, who each shot a 213 for 54 holes.
Along with Carlyle, other Tech scores on Wednesday were
junior Jonathon Spikes (Danville, Ark.) firing a
one-under par 70 to finish in a tie for 34th place with
a score of 222 (76, 76, 70), while senior Taylor
Wallner (Fayetteville, Ark.) carded a 78 in

Drew Richards (Prescott, Ark.) shot a 77 in the
final round to finish in a tie for 98th place with a 237
