MUSCLE SHOALS, Alabama – The Arkansas Tech Men’s Golf team continued play here Tuesday in the 2009 NCAA Division II South/Southeast Super Regional at the Robert Trent Jones of the Shoals Fighting Joe Course looking to rebound after firing a 306 in Monday’s first round.

In Tuesday’s second round, Tech fired a 293, which was the fourth best score of the day, to jump from 19th place to 13th place heading into Wednesday’s final round. Tech sits just 13 shots behind fifth-place Columbus State (586) and nine shots behind sixth-place Barton (590) and Georgia College & State University (590).

One day after three teams shot par or better in the first round, only two teams, Lynn and Barry [FL] finished with a score of par of better as Lynn fired a one-under par 287 and Barry carded an even-par 288 on the day. With its 287 on Tuesday, Lynn moved into first place with a score of 572 after 36 holes, while Barry moved into a tie for second place with first-day leader North Alabama. The Lions, who are the host team for the regional, shot a seven-over par 295 in the second round and are shooting 576 for the tournament. Nova Southeastern is in fourth place (584) heading into Wednesday’s final round after carding back-to-back 292s.

Tech, who is making its sixth-ever NCAA D-II Regional appearance and first since 2004, opened the day by firing a two-under par 142 on the back nine and the shot a 151 on the front nine to jump back into contention at the 54-hole tournament.

The top five teams (regardless of region) and the top two individuals not from one of the five advancing teams will qualify for the 2009 NCAA D-II National Championships, which are being held at the Semiahmoo Resort in Bellingham, Wash., on May 19-22.

Leading the way for Tech in Tuesday’s second round was senior Jarred Carlyle (Nashville, Ark.). Carlyle, who carded a three-over par 75 in the first round, fired a one-under par 71 on Tuesday. With his one-under 71, Carlyle is now shooting a 146 for the tournament as he moved up from a tie for 58th place on Monday to a tie for 19th place heading into Wednesday’s final round.

In addition to UNA and Tech, other GSC competing in this year’s South/Southeast Super Regional are West Florida and Valdosta State.
