JARRED CARLYLE SHOOTS FINAL ROUND 77 TO FINISH TIED FOR
13TH AT NCAA D-II SOUTH/SOUTH CENTRAL SUPER REGIONAL

AUSTIN, Texas – Arkansas Tech junior Jarred Carlyle concluded play here Wednesday in the 2008 NCAA Division II South/South Central Regional at the Grey Rock Golf Club by shooting a disappointing 6-over par 77 to finish in a tie for 13th place with Florida Tech’s Kyle Westhorpe out of 45 competitors.

Carlyle, who finished the tournament by shooting a 3-over par 216 for 54 holes, entered Wednesday’s final round sitting in prime position to earn a spot in next week’s NCAA Division II National Championship Meet in Houston, Texas, but fired a 6-over par 42 over his final nine holes to fall out of contention. On his back nine, Carlyle shot a nine on the par-4 No. 1 hole and then bogeyed the par-4 No. 4, before finishing the round with five straight pars.

West Florida, the three-time GSC Champions, won the South Region team title as the Argonauts held off a third-round rally by Nova Southeastern after shooting a 12-under par 840, while St. Edwards, the host school for the super regional, took home the team title in the South Central Region as they fired a 54-hole total of 11-under par 841. West Florida and St. Edwards advanced to the 2008 NCAA Division II National Championship Meet which will be held from May 14-17 as part of the NCAA Division II Spring Championships Festival at the Memorial Park Golf Course in Houston.

In addition to West Florida and St. Edwards, Nova Southeastern (844), Florida Southern (856) and North Alabama (858) earned at-large berth into the NCAA Championship Meet as they were the next four highest scoring teams in the combined super regional.

Cameron’s Peter Svajlen, who took home individual medalist honors from the South Central Region, shot a 5-under par 208 to earn a berth as an individual in next week’s NCAA D-II Championships. West Florida’s Kyle Scott fired a nine-under par 204 to take home individual medalist honors from the South Region.

Carlyle, a native of Nashville, Ark., was one of the 10 individuals from non-regional qualifying teams to earn a berth in this year’s South/South Central Super Regional. Carlyle’s score of 216 was third best among the 10 individual qualifiers at the super regional. In Monday’s first round, Carlyle shot a 1-over par 72 and then fired a 4-under par 67 in Tuesday’s second round.
