JARRED CARLYLE QUALIFES AS AN INDIVIDUAL
FOR THIS YEAR'S
NCAA DIVISION II SOUTH/SOUTH CENTRAL MEN'S GOLF REGIONAL
INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana –

Tech junior Jarred Carlyle found out Friday that
he gets to continue playing this season as he earned a
spot as an individual in the 2008 NCAA Division II Men’s
Golf South/South Central Super Regional Tournament.
This year’s NCAA D-II South/South Central Super Regional
Meet will be hosted by St. Edward’s University from May
5-7 at Grey Rock Golf Club in Austin, Texas. The top
scoring team from each region within the super regional
and the top individual not with a team from each super
regional (regardless of region) will advance to the 2008
Division II Spring National Championships Festival in
Houston, Texas, on May 14-17 at the Memorial Park Golf
Course.
It is the second consecutive season that Carlyle, a
native of Nashville, Ark., has qualified for NCAA D-II
Super Regional play as both he and fellow classmate,
B.J. Hawkins (Winnsboro, Texas) earned berths in
last season’s super regional.
“Jarred has had a really good season and is deserving of
competing in this year’s NCAA Tournament,” Wonder Boys
Head Golf Coach Dave Falconer said. “I’m hoping
Jarred can go to Texas, make a good showing and continue
to play well.”
Carlyle,
who recently finished tied for the sixth at the 2008
Arkansas Blue Cross Blue Shield/GSC Championships after
shooting a three-over par 218 at the Hot Springs Country
Club. Carlyle, who is the No. 3 seeded individual from
the South Region, enters the NCAA Super Regional
sporting a 72.6 scoring average in 16 rounds of golf and
eight tournaments. On the season, Carlyle, who was
repeat First-Team All-GSC and All-GSC Tournament Team
selection this year, has had three Top 10 finishes and
two more finishes in the Top 25, including taking home
individual medalist honors at the Natural State Classic
in Heber Springs, Ark., after firing a 36-hole total of
140.
Joining Carlyle as individuals from the South Region
were Henderson State’s Jack Bartlett (No. 1 seed), West
Georgia’s Brandon Bennett (No. 2 seed), Henderson
State’s Ben Cuzen (No. 4 seed) and Saint Leo’s Matt
Cornuet (No. 5 seed).
In addition to five individuals, eight teams qualified
for the regional meet, including three teams from the
GSC. West Florida, the three-time GSC champion and the
No. 1 team in the latest Golf World/Nike
Golf D-II Coaches’ Top 25 Poll, earned the region’s top
seed, while Valdosta State earned the No. 4 seed and
North Alabama, this year’s GSC runner-up, earned the No.
8 seed. Other teams that qualified were Florida Southern
(No. 2 seed and champion from the Sunshine State
Conference), Nova Southeastern (No. 3 seed), Barry (No.
5 seed), Lynn (No. 6 seed) and Florida Tech (No. 7
seed).
