WONDER BOYS CONCLUDE FALL SEASON WITH SECOND PLACE
FINISH AT RAIN-SHORTENED INDIAN BAYOU GOLF CLASSIC

DESTIN, Florida – Arkansas Tech Men’s Golf completed its fall season here with a second place finish in the rain-shortened Indian Bayou Golf Classic hosted by North Alabama University and held here at the Indian Bayou Golf Course.

The tournament, which was scheduled for 36 holes, was shortened to just 18 holes when the rain washed away the second round of action on both Monday and Tuesday. The teams did manage to complete the 18-hole first round on Sunday.

Tech finished the 17 team tournament with an 18-hole total of 295, to finish two stokes behind Columbus State (293), who took home the team title. Lander University finished third by shooting a 296, while Delta State and North Alabama finished tied for fourth after shooting 301s.

“The weather wasn’t very good for golf,” Tech Head Coach Dave Falconer said Wednesday. “I was proud of the way our kids performed despite the weather conditions.”

Leading the way for the Wonder Boys was junior Jarred Carlyle (Nashville, Ark.), who shot a two-under par 70 to finish in a tie with North Alabama’s Brett Munson for second place. Hitt shot a four-under 32 on the front nine and then followed with a two-over 38 on the back nine. For his performance, Carlyle was named to the seven-player All-Tournament Team.

Lander’s Patrick Wilson won the individual medalist honors after firing a three-under par 69 for 18 holes.

In addition to Carlyle, sophomore Jonathon Spikes (Danville, Ark.) shot a one-over par 73 to finish tied for ninth, while junior B.J. Hawkins (Winnsboro, Texas) fired a three-over par 75 to finish tied for 17th place. Junior Taylor Wallner (Fayetteville, Ark.) and sophomore Ryan Hitt (Allen, Texas) each shot five-over par 77s to finish in a tie for 35th place.
