FOOTBALL COACHES NAME MVPS FROM WEST GEORGIA GAME
RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas –
The
Arkansas Tech football coaching staff has selected its
Most Valuable Players from its 62-30 homecoming win
Saturday over West Georgia.
The Offensive MVP honor went to senior receiver
Frantz Simeon (Belle Glade, Fla.). Simeon earns his
third MVP honor of the season and his first on offense
as he was previously named the Special Teams MVP
following both the Incarnate Word and
Arkansas-Monticello games. Simeon earns the Offensive
MVP honor this week after grading out a 92 percent in
the win over the Wolves, according to Tech Head Football
Coach and Athletic Director Steve Mullins.
Against the Wolves, Simeon caught 10 passes for a
school-record 216 yards and also caught a school-record
four touchdown passes. In addition, Simeon gained 66
yards at the catch and recorded two knockdown blocks.
Simeon’s 216 receiving yards bettered the old school
mark of 207 set by Alan King against Missouri
Southern in 1988, while the four touchdowns bettered the
old mark of three held by seven players, most recently
set by Tracey Stiger against Ouachita Baptist in
2007. The four touchdown catches is also tied for
second-most in single-game GSC history.
On defense, the coaches awarded MVP honors to senior
defensive tackle Matt Riser (Jacksonville, Ark.).
Riser earns the defense honor after grading out at 82
percent against the Wolves. In the win over UWG, Riser
recorded three tackles and had two quarterback
pressures.
The coaches awarded Special Teams MVP honors to
redshirt freshman fullback Cody Lewis (Houston,
Texas) for the second consecutive week. Lewis was named
the Special Team MVP following last Saturday’s game with
Southern Arkansas. Mullins said that Lewis earns the
special teams honor after being the high point man on
Tech’s kick coverage team.
Tech (5-2 overall, 3-2 GSC) will return to action next
Saturday, Oct. 24, when they travel to Arkadelphia,
Ark., to face Henderson State (3-4 overall, 3-2 GSC) in
a 3 p.m. Gulf South Conference match-up at
Carpenter-Haygood Stadium on the HSU campus.
