GOLDEN SUNS EARN NO. 7 RANKING IN LATEST NCAA DIVISION II SOUTH REGIONAL POLL

RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas – Arkansas Tech Women’s Country earned its first regional ranking of the season on Thursday as the Golden Suns achieved a No. 7 ranking in the latest NCAA Division II South Regional rankings compiled by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Tech, who is coming off a 17th place finish out of 41 teams at last Saturday’s Brooks Memphis Twilight Classic, is one of five Gulf South Conference schools in the fifth region poll of the season.

“I’m excited that we have received some regional notice for the season we’ve had so far,” Tech Cross Country Coach Tom Aspel said. “It is nice to be recognized as one of the Top 10 teams in the region.”

Harding is the highest rated GSC squad as the Lady Bisons are ranked second this week after being third in last week’s poll. Harding finished third at last weekend’s Memphis Twilight Meet. Other GSC squads ranked include Alabama-Huntsville at No. 3, West Florida at No. 6 and North Alabama is at No. 8.

Tampa is the top-rated team in the region for the first time this season. Other teams ranked include Florida Southern at No. 4, Columbus State at No. 5, Augusta State at No. 9 and Georgia College and State University rounds out the poll at No. 10.

The Golden Suns will return to action this Saturday, Oct. 13 when they compete in the 19th Annual Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival hosted by the University of the Arkansas. The women’s meet gets underway at 8 a.m. in Fayetteville, Ark.
