GOLDEN SUNS EARN NO. 7 RANKING IN LATEST NCAA DIVISION
II SOUTH REGIONAL POLL
RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas –
Arkansas Tech Women’s Country earned its first regional
ranking of the season on Thursday as the Golden Suns
achieved a No. 7 ranking in the latest NCAA Division II
South Regional rankings compiled by the United States
Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Tech, who is coming off a 17th place finish out of 41
teams at last Saturday’s Brooks Memphis Twilight
Classic, is one of five Gulf South Conference schools in
the fifth region poll of the season.
“I’m excited that we have received some regional notice
for the season we’ve had so far,” Tech Cross Country
Coach Tom Aspel said. “It is nice to be
recognized as one of the Top 10 teams in the region.”
Harding is the highest rated GSC squad as the Lady
Bisons are ranked second this week after being third in
last week’s poll. Harding finished third at last
weekend’s Memphis Twilight Meet. Other GSC squads ranked
include Alabama-Huntsville at No. 3, West Florida at No.
6 and North Alabama is at No. 8.
Tampa is the top-rated team in the region for the first
time this season. Other teams ranked include Florida
Southern at No. 4, Columbus State at No. 5, Augusta
State at No. 9 and Georgia College and State University
rounds out the poll at No. 10.
The Golden Suns will return to action this Saturday,
Oct. 13 when they compete in the 19th Annual Chile
Pepper Cross Country Festival hosted by the University
of the Arkansas. The women’s meet gets underway at 8
a.m. in Fayetteville, Ark.
