ARKANSAS TECH'S MELISSA POLLREIS NAMED GSC'S
WOMEN'S
CROSS COUNTRY RUNNER OF THE WEEK
RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas –
Arkansas Tech’s Melissa Pollreis has been named
the Gulf South Conference’s Women’s Cross Country Runner
of the Week on Tuesday.
Pollreis,
a freshman from Gravette, Ark., won the honor after her
strong performance at last Saturday’s 2006 Chile Pepper
X-C Festival hosted by the University of Arkansas.
At
the Chile Pepper meet, Pollreis ran a time of 25:10.1 to
finish the 6,000-meter course at Agri Park in
Fayetteville in 274th place overall. Pollreis’ time was
a career-best for Pollreis in a 6K race.
Pollreis was the third Golden Sun runner to be named a
Runner of the Week this season following junior Aoife
Cooke (Youghal, Ireland) and redshirt freshman
Eimear O’Brien (Sligo, Ireland).
Pollreis and her Golden Sun teammates return to action
on Saturday, Oct. 21 when they compete at the GSC Cross
Country Championship Meet in Huntsville, Ala. The GSC
meet will begin with the women’s race at 9 a.m. and then
conclude with the men’s race beginning at 10 a.m.
