BAILEE MILLER EARNS HER FIFTH GSC CROSS COUNTRY
RUNNER OF THE WEEK HONOR
RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas –
Arkansas Tech freshman Bailee Miller closed out
the regular season by going five-for-five on Gulf South
Conference Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
honors as she was honored once again Wednesday with the
weekly honor from the league office in Birmingham, Ala.
Miller
competed in five races during the regular season and she
won five GSC Runner of the Week accolades. She becomes
the first female runner since the weekly awards
inception in 2006 to win more than two times in the same
season.
“Bailee has had a tremendous season for our team and it
is nice to see her recognized by the league office for
her accomplishments,” Golden Suns Head Coach Tom
Aspel said.
Miller,
a native of Dover, Ark., earns this week’s honor after
finishing in 45th place overall and she was the second
non-Division I runner to cross the finish line at last
weekend’s 21st-Annual Chile Pepper X-C Festival in
Fayetteville, Ark. Miller ran the 6,000-meter race in a
time of 22:15, which is the sixth fastest 6K time in
school history.
With her performance, she helped the Golden Suns to a
26th place finish overall and a second place finish
among non-Division I teams at the meet. Tech scored 648
points to finish seven points behind Arkansas State
(641) and 17 points in front of LSU (665).
It is the 10th time a Tech runner has been honored as a
Runner of the Week since the league began the weekly
honor.
Miller and her teammates will return to action
this weekend when they travel to Hoover, Ala., to
compete in the 2009 GSC Championships held at Veteran’s
Park. Tech enters the meet as the No. 3 ranked team and
the second team ranked from the GSC in the latest
USTFCCCA Division II South Region Poll.
