ARKANSAS TECH'S LAUREN KARNITZ NAMED GSC'S WOMEN'S
CROSS COUNTRY RUNNER OF THE WEEK

RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas – Arkansas Tech’s Lauren Karnitz has been named this week’s Gulf South Conference’s Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week on Thursday.

Karnitz, a freshman from DeSoto, Kan., won the honor after her third place finish at last Saturday’s Orange Crush Invitational hosted by Hendrix College.

At the Orange Crush meet, Karnitz ran a time of 20:15 to finish the 5,000-meter course in third place. Her third place finished helped the Golden Suns finish second overall at the meet as they scored 55 points.

Karnitz becomes the first Golden Sun runner to be named a Runner of the Week this season and the fourth overall since the league began the weekly honor last season.

The Golden Suns return to action next Saturday, Oct. 6 when they compete at the Brooks/Memphis Twilight Classic in Memphis, Tenn.
